It was so much fun supporting the Greater Chicago Food Depository for its “Guacamole Challenge” in collaboration with Mariano's (Amanda Puck!), the handsome players of Chicago Fire FC and Avocados from Peru! The event raised awareness for eating healthy and the wonderful work the GCFD provides to the underserved communities. Competitors/friends, Ana Belaval, Natalie Bomke, Cara Carriveau, Joseph Chatz and this writer were teamed with Chicago Fire players to see who could create the best guac. In the end, Natalie won the coveted Silver Avocado Award! As part of the challenge, Avocados from Peru, the Fire and Mariano’s will donate a trailer full of avocados (100,000!) to GCFD. Yesterday, we were excited to host Chicago Fire FC, Avocados from Peru Mariano's for a day of service and the Guacamole Challenge! Local media personalities and Chicago Fire players competed to make the best tasting guacamole while raising awareness for our mission to #EndHungerNow. Thank you to these organizations for visiting the Food Depository and thank you to Avocados from Peru for donating a truckload of healthy, tasty avocados that will be distributed across our community in the coming days.

I'm excited to introduce a project that's been close to my heart for the past six months: The Chicago Chefs Cook Cookbook. This initiative is more than just a collection of recipes—it's a celebration of our city's unified and humanitarian culinary culture, with proceeds going to CHI-CARE a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting the unhoused in Chicagoland. In collaboration with Mariano's supermarkets, the incredible Amanda Puck, 46 extraordinary Chef participants, and my superhuman philanthropy partners Melissa Clark, MBA, CPSP, Eda Davidman, and Chef Sarah Stegner, we've stitched together a cookbook that truly reflects the vibrant and generous spirit of Chicago's Chefs. The book features insightful interviews with Food and Beverage & community leaders, recipes from Top Chef winners, quotes from James Beard Award winners and media personalities, stunning photographs of Michelin-starred chefs, and beautifully crafted content by Chicago Magazine journalists (+ a bonus cameo from my favorite 7 year old who joined me for the photoshoot and tastings!). Yesterday's launch party for the Chicago Chefs Cookbook — a collaboration of Chicago Chefs Cook (CCC) and Mariano's — was kind of a fantasy camp for food lovers. Attendees got to hang with most of the 46 leading Chicago area chefs who contributed the delicious-looking recipes in the cookbook. I admit to scurrying around between photo taking to get my cookbook autographed. It was all for a very good cause, as proceeds from the cookbook... on sale at all Mariano's stores starting Monday... go to CHI-CARE, a charitable organization that provides basic human needs for people enduring homelessness.
