A good look at some drone warriors in Ukraine...and an aspect of present and future war. This is not going away. If anything, AI/machine learning and mass production is going to transform [drone] warfare...just like the internal combustion engine, aircraft, aircraft carriers, submarines, machine guns, precision weapons, stealth, nuclear weapons and propulsion, and much more have changed the nature of warfare.

This. Right here. Read this right here. This piece is a well researched, well-written, historically-based, and highly useful study as it relates to a critical element of MAGTF-ery. I also recommend having Google Maps/Earth open while you read this in order to follow along with the geography of each island/airfield mentioned. That might help get into the thoughts and decisions of the commanders of the time. These airfields are still there in some shape or form...with some, naturally, having become the commercial airport for the respective area. Others have been slowly reclaimed by the jungle. The US is rediscovering some of these airfields and even rebuilding one or two of them (the northern Tinian airfield of "Enola Gay" and "Bockscar" fame, for starters). Great article! One day I (Christian Wade) was traipsing down a P-way at the School of Infantry West and I happened upon an anti-armor class, being taught by a young Leatherneck, in one of the large classrooms. As I quietly stood in the hatch, I heard him tell the class, "Marine Gunners are the weirdest MF-ers in the Marine Corps." Truer words were never spoken. I have no idea why he inserted that into an otherwise carefully crafted anti-armor Program of Instruction, but it added some welcomed seasoning to it. For brevity's sake, whenever I am asked about the complex and mysterious nature of a Marine Gunner, I reply that a Commanding General has a special staff (aside from his/her command element, of course). That special staff consists of [at least] a Doctor, Lawyer, Chaplain, and a Marine Gunner. He has those other three because of me [the Gunner]." Good work, Gunners. Wonderful to see the Corps is working hard on the Annual Rifle Squad Competition. Many of us might better remember this by its unofficial names, "Super Squad" or "Squad Comp". We love to see this! Gunners, we will be seeing you soon...after the short Montana summer at the Little Bighorn National Battlefield.
