We're glad we joined two Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Regional Forums this June. Orly Nosrati spoke on a panel in Los Angeles, CA about interweaving diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into the everyday and Jamie Carsey participated in a session in Dallas, TX about her career story. Proceeds from the events benefitted IICF nonprofit partners and neighbors in need through the IICF Community Grants Program.

As Pride Month comes to an end, we're looking forward to a hands-on opportunity with the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. Markel is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s PRIDE Build, which will begin mid-summer and continue through the fall. Once assigned a build day, professionals will guide our employee volunteers through some work on a home, which will then be given to a family in need. Members of PRISM, our LGBTQ+ employee-led resource group, attended a Habitat for Humanity kick-off event yesterday to build excitement for this chance to give back to the community. Learn more about PRIDE Build here: https://lnkd.in/ebAAgDBA. #Pride #PrideMonth #WeAreMarkel

We kicked off our 2024 Richmond Summer Event Series in the perfect way — by celebrating our recent Top Workplaces recognition! We’re happy to have been honored for the second year in a row, thanks to our people-powered culture and dedicated employees. Our President Jeremy Noble shared, “It’s incredibly gratifying to have received the acknowledgment as a Top Workplace in Richmond the past two years. It’s made even more gratifying by the fact that, ultimately, that's the voice of our employees sharing their views of what it’s like to have an experience growing a career and being part of the Markel community.” More than 600 employees enjoyed a variety of food trucks and received some new swag that they featured in the Markel photo booth. Two of our employee-led resource groups, UN1DOS and PRISM, also set up booths to share information and encourage others to get involved. You can more about those groups here: https://lnkd.in/eRhDJtzh. #WeAreMarkel #WorkAtMarkel #MarkelStyle #TopWorkplaces2024

While reinsurance property lines might still be enjoying hard market conditions, the situation for casualty re/insurers is more complex. Increased competition has driven rates down while loss costs, driven by economic inflation, social inflation, higher loss values and economic turbulence, have increased. The tailwinds carriers enjoyed are now turning – into noticeable headwinds. Meanwhile, concerns about adequate reserving are emerging as are worries over investment portfolios. Don Bahr and Alan Dowling are part of an upcoming Intelligent Insurer webinar that will examine the complexities of casualty business ahead of another renewal.
