  • Congratulations to Mary Washington Hospital DAISY award winner, Amy Hastings! Amy was nominated by a grateful patient for consistently going above and beyond, listening to her concerns and taking immediate action when needed. In the patient's own words: "You are a true patient advocate who really understands your patients and knows that each patient is different and should be cared for in a way that respects he/she as a real person with disabilities and physical limitations. You are authentic, transparent, kind, and caring and I wanted to let you know that you truly made a huge impact in a very positive way during my stay. I was able to sleep well knowing that I had real genuine support from a leader. You are a true professional who has set the example for all caregivers." Amy, we are #MWHCproud!! #DAISYAward #DAISY 🌼

  • We are honored to support the City of Fredericksburg, Virginia in their efforts to place AEDs in city parks and on city trails. The Mary Washington Hospital Foundation's Joe and Mary Wilson Community Benefit Fund donated $7,500 to help with the purchase and installation of two AEDs at Memorial (Kenmore) Park and W. L. Harris Park. The AED devices are in climate-controlled security boxes that require users to call 911 to obtain the access code. By dialing 911, first responders are alerted that emergency services are required, and the caller will be on the phone with a dispatcher who can assist them in the use of the AED.

Jack cared for her patient with love and compassion, going above and beyond her normal duties as a nurse. The patient's mom wrote this in her nomination: "I can never thank her enough or show her how much I appreciate her for what she did." Jack, thank you for caring for your patients so well. • It's CNA week, and we want to give a shout out to Rooma Wallace, who is a CNA with Mary Washington Home Health. Rooma won our Star Thrower award for making a difference in someone's life. Rooma was nominated by the daughter of one of her patients with mobility issues and dementia. The decision to enlist home health for her mother "has been literally one of the best decisions I have made for my mother regarding her health. I was told that Rooma would work with mom and, even though I had never met her, I was intrigued when told 'you will love Rooma, EVERYONE loves Rooma!' "Rooma could teach classes on how to interact with dementia patients. The only problem would be that it is less about WHAT Rooma does, it is about WHO Rooma is, and that can’t be taught. She has managed to befriend mom at a time in mom’s life when connecting with new people is nearly impossible. Rooma is the hardest worker I have ever seen, who does her job bathing mom extremely well, fast, and efficiently. The prediction that we would 'love Rooma' in that intake visit has been proven true over and over. Mary Washington Home Health is very lucky to have her, and I write this in the hope that it will garner Rooma at least a little of the recognition and thanks she deserves." Rooma, we are #MWHCproud you're on our team, and we are grateful for the care and compassion you show every day.
