When late-summer lightning strikes sparked the Bear Fire in Northern California, it spread rapidly through the high-density, high-risk timber forests, becoming the 6th largest fire in modern Californian history. The fire burned at nearly 100% severity, decimating forests, destroying seed stocks, and hindering the forests’ ability to regenerate naturally. When you purchase Mast’s carbon removal credits, you are directly funding our work to restore resilient forests in California and the American West. Without carbon-financed restoration, this region would likely remain barren, depleting critical habitat for species such as salmon, bald eagles, and warblers. Making reforestation scalable.
About us
Mast Reforestation is a climate tech company with a mission to make reforestation scalable. As bigger, hotter, and more frequent fires increasingly destroy forested land each year, Mast facilitates faster, more resilient forest regeneration. Mast provides vertically integrated reforestation services to get forest restoration projects up and running in weeks, not years. Services include seed collection, seedling cultivation, site preparation, seedling hand planting, aerial drone-based seeding, and ongoing site monitoring. To fund its projects and open new revenue streams for landowners, Mast sells carbon removal credits that allow companies seeking positive climate action to invest in reforestation projects for 200 years or more. Mast’s investors include Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six, Social Capital, DBL Partners, Marc Benioff’s TIME Ventures, Elemental Excelerator, and more. To learn more, visit MastReforest.com.

Ahead of World Nature Conservation Day, the Earthlings 2.0, The Podcast is revisiting its episode with Grant Canary, the modern-day Johnny Appleseed and CEO of Mast Reforestation. 🌍🌳 The challenge is real: with a concerted effort, forests can regrow independently but will need significant help regenerating as climate change shortens the window for seedlings to establish after fires. 🔥🌡️ Grant and his team are transforming reforestation efforts by managing the entire process of bringing forests back to life – tune in to learn more about Mast Reforestation’s mission. 🎙️🌱 #WorldNatureConservationDay #Reforestation #ClimateAction #MastReforestation
This week we're revisiting our enlightening conversation with Grant Canary from Mast Reforestation. 🌳 🌱 Reforestation isn't just about planting trees—it's a powerful tool for restoring biodiversity and fighting climate change. 💡 While altruism is admirable, it's not enough. Grant emphasizes the need for sustainable, scalable solutions. That means creating economic incentives for reforestation and developing robust ways to measure its impact. 🎙️ Dive deeper: https://lnkd.in/gytnzx6A #Reforestation #ClimateAction #Conservation #SustainableSolutions

Between 1984 and 2000, the United States successfully planted enough trees to restore those we lost in wildfires every year. Since then, reforestation acres have fallen behind fire-affected acres by an estimated 3.8 million acres—an area larger than the state of Connecticut. This shortfall is projected to double or triple by 2050. A recent paper titled “Mind the Gap—Reforestation needs vs. reforestation capacity in the western United States” dives deep into this reforestation backlog and the urgent need to address challenges preventing post-wildfire restoration. The paper is co-authored by our team of experts, including Chief Science Officer, Matthew Aghai; Bio R&D Specialist, Rebecca Downer; Carbon Program Manager, Tom Baribault; and VP of Forest Carbon Dev, Lisa Gonzales-Kramer. What are #carboncredits good for? Common answers include "nothing" and "greenwashing." But there are other, more hopeful (and feasible) answers, and Emily Pontecorvo delves into one of them for Heatmap News: "replanting forests decimated by #climate impacts." Love the knowledge and insight from Mast Reforestation's Matthew Aghai! https://lnkd.in/eeqZWj4j

During the warm summer months, seedlings experience rapid growth spurts, making regular inspections crucial at Cal Forest Nurseries. Our Chief Science Officer, Matthew Aghai, and General Manager at Cal Forest, Nik Larum, walk through the greenhouses to monitor development, ensure optimal thinning, evaluate root structure, and check for any signs of disease. #mastreforestation #seedlings #forestrestoration

Our latest reforestation project, Feather River Dome, is located in Butte County, California. In response to the destructive 2020 North Complex Fire, Mast successfully planted over 47,000 seedlings across the 166 acre Feather River Dome project this spring. The planted seedlings were specifically selected to represent a diverse range of native species, and were chosen for their ability to thrive in the local climate, adapt to climate change, and sequester approximately 50,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next century. 👇 Find out more about our Feather River Dome project and how you can support our efforts to restore US forests: https://lnkd.in/dWFiRa43 #reforestation #forestresilience #forestrestoration
