About us

Maximum Fidelity Surgical Simulations (MaxFi) specializes in the reanimation of human and animal cadavers for the purposes of surgical modeling. Our patented envivoPC® technology reconstitutes the cadaver's circulatory system with a realistic warm pulsatile flow, avoiding tissues distortion and bloating associated with other cadaver perfusion attempts. We work alongside physicians and medical device companies to design the best models possible for surgical education and extending the applicability of cadavers. We place engineers in the physician's seat and maximize physicians' confidence in the medical device's efficacy. We are the intersection of innovation and precision in surgical simulation, reshaping the landscape of medical training and device development. Message us to learn more about what we do!

  • For centuries, animals have been used in surgical training as part of efforts to improve surgical techniques and patient outcomes. However, physiological and anatomical differences have led to the need for adaptation of skills from animals to humans, contributing to the unnecessary loss of animal life. For example, a study comparing cricothyroidotomy procedures between pigs and humans highlighted differences in anatomical structures, such as the thickness of the frontal neck section and the distance from the head to the torso (Karlsson et al., 2022). These differences may contribute to variations in surgical outcomes and learning experiences. As surgical training continues to evolve, implementing alternative methods that more closely replicate human anatomy and physiology will enhance the overall effectiveness of training programs while preventing further use of animals in surgical training settings.  As the medical education community continues to investigate alternatives to animal models, the importance of advanced solutions becomes clear. John Pippin, MD, FACC, of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine emphasizes this need: 'When every second counts, doctors shouldn’t have to translate animal anatomy to the human patient in front of them. Perfused cadavers provide more realistic, lifelike training. Using them saves human lives while also sparing animals.' MaxFi’s envivoPC® technology tackles these challenges head-on by providing highly realistic, perfused cadavers that closely mimic human anatomy and physiological responses. As a result, we have increased the confidence of over 10,000 trainees, extended their hands-on exposure time, and streamlined their mastery of procedures by allowing training on actual human cadavers. By bridging the gap between research and clinical practice, we not only improve the quality of surgical training but also offer a more accurate and ethical alternative to animal models. #Surgery #Innovation #Healthcare #MaxFi #MedTech

  • There is an urgent need to transition from traditional live animal use in surgical training settings to more advanced and humane technologies. At MaxFi, we are proud to contribute to this shift through our collaboration with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. We want to highlight MedPage's article showcasing our envivoPC® perfused cadaver model at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Our flagship perfusion model represents a major advancement in surgical training, offering a more lifelike, relevant, and ethical alternative to live animal use. While some institutions express concerns regarding current technology that cannot replicate the most complex surgical procedures, our envivoPC®model, supported by PCRM, proves otherwise by delivering a hands-on learning experience by reconstituting the cadaver's circulatory system. This approach eliminates tissue inconsistencies and provides immediate, realistic responses to surgical techniques. Our technology effectively mirrors the intricacies of real-life surgeries, proving its capability to surpass traditional methods. This important discussion reflects the growing recognition and value of advanced simulation technologies in surgical training. Our envivoPC® model is not just a tool. It is a solution to a longstanding challenge by offering an ethical and highly effective means of providing physiologically accurate surgical training. As the dialogue around animal use in surgical training continues, we remains dedicated to advancing technology that upholds the highest standards of both education and ethics. We are proud to contribute to this transformative movement and support the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of surgical training.
