Latest in Med by Cell Press: Trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) demonstrated promising results in treating patients with leptomeningeal disease (LMD),a serious complication of breast cancer. In a phase 2 DEBBRAH trial, patients with HER2-positive and HER2-low breast cancer and LMD received T-DXd. The drug showed significant overall survival and progression-free survival, with a favorable safety profile. These findings suggest that T-DXd could be a potential treatment option for patients with this challenging condition. Recent advancements in clinical management and therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease (AD) have introduced monoclonal antibody therapies targeting the disease's underlying pathophysiology. Biomarkers, including imaging and fluid biomarkers, are playing a crucial role in the development of AD treatments. This review in Med by Cell Press examines fluid biomarker evidence from recent amyloid-β-targeting clinical trials, proposes a framework for utilizing biomarker guidance in disease modification, and emphasizes the importance of understanding biomarkers in the context of disease progression to enhance the design of future AD trials and guide precision medicine approaches in AD treatment. 📢 Exciting research news! A study led by Vladimir Katanaev, professor in the Departement of Cell Physiology and Metabolism, at the Faculty of Medicine - Université de Genève, with first author Yonika Arum Larasati and published in Med by Cell Press, showed how the administration of zinc ions to a young child suffering from a severe neurodevelopmental significantly improved the child's quality of life. This disorder is caused by a mutation in the GNAO1 gene, which codes for a protein, Gαo, one of the essential building blocks of neurons. Zinc ions restored the function of the defective Gαo protein and significantly reduced the frequency of hyperkinetic and epileptic seizures. #GNAO1 #medicine #research
