About us
At MedScan3D our production techniques provide patient specific 3D printed model's with applications in medical device prototyping and testing, pre surgical planning and educational purposes. All models are segmented from patient specific data and they can be made in a variety of materials. At MedScan3D we work closely with the research and development teams to design clinically relevant models for prototyping, patient specific testing and ongoing device tests. These medical models will optimize your testing procedures at all stages of the device development. The models are geometrically designed to withstand rigorous laboratory and field use. For ongoing testing purposes we can provide silicone casted models from the 3D printed prototypes, which can be CAD adapted to suit any of your simulation models. Our anatomically accurate models effectively display your device in a clinically representative situation. This not only provides an invaluable testing tool for your device, but it also enhances credibility with your customers.

Yesterday, we shared insights with the team at Tallaght University Hospital on medical 3D printing applications across various departments. The workshop included an overview presentation, live demonstrations of a Markforged printer, and an EinScan_Japan scanner, which included scanning my foot! Displaying a variety of models sparked engaging discussions, paving the way for future collaborations. Grateful to Health Innovation Hub Ireland for their support, notably Neil Tilly. We are looking forward to more days like this to promote medical 3D printing. At MedScan3D, we are dedicated to developing reliable and user-friendly protocols seamlessly integrated into existing clinical workflows. Working with hospitals such St James's Hospital Dublin and Tallaght University Hospital, we are focused on designing robust workflows for patient-specific anatomical models. Our goal is to streamline processes, reducing the need for extensive testing to ensure top-quality prints meeting surgical planning requirements. A recent study emphasizes the critical role of CT acquisition protocols in accurate 3D modeling and printing within the medical field. Highlighting the impact of CT scan slice thickness and pixel size on model precision, the research underscores the significance of slice thickness in particular. For precise mandibular models aligned with clinical standards, a slice thickness of up to 3.00 mm is recommended. These protocols are instrumental in producing detailed and accurate patient-specific anatomical models. As part of MedScan3D's growth, we are always exploring new avenues where 3D printing can enhance medical professionals' ability to achieve better patient outcomes. Many of us have been touched by #breastcancer in some way. Personally, my mother, sister, and aunt have battled this disease. The impact of breast cancer remains at the forefront of my mind and that of many of my friends. Consider these key statistics: 🍈 Breast cancer is the 2nd most common cancer globally. 🍈 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer were reported in 2022 among women. 🍈 1 in 7 women and 1 in 728 men will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. 🍈 In Ireland, 3,700 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually. 🍈 23% of women are diagnosed between the ages of 20-50 years. 🍈 40% of women have dense breast tissue, posing challenges for mammogram accuracy. Advancements in 3D printing technology, such as patient-specific pre-surgical planning and customised surgical guides, are reshaping breast cancer surgery. These innovations not only enhance surgical precision and esthetic outcomes but also facilitate improved communication among healthcare providers and empower patient education. Learn more about these groundbreaking developments: https://lnkd.in/gEwAyx93 Attached is a photo of myself, my mam and my sister, who are thankfully recovered and healthy. #breastcancer #medical3dprinting #patientoutcome #earlydetection

At MedScan3D, we've created a large number of intricate cardiovascular models like this aortic root chronic total occlusion model, featuring patient-specific coronary arteries. This multi-material part aids surgeons in understanding the best procedure approach, both prospectively and retrospectively. Carefully replicating the patient's arteries, we ensure precise replication. Check out the video to see the model in CT, revealing calcified blockages. #3DPrinting #MedicalModels #SurgicalPlanning #PatientOutcomes #Collaboration #MedicalInnovation #SurgicalTechnology #AorticRootCTO #MedicalAdvancements Cornelio Salvador Salinas

A question I'm frequently asked is how additive manufacturing in the medical field will stack up against augmented reality. It's an excellent question! But rather than looking at the two technologies as competing directly, lets take a look at them as complimentary; ⭐ Synergy: Additive manufacturing and augmented reality can complement each other. For instance, a surgeon could use AR to visualise a surgical plan and then utilise 3D-printed patient-specific guides or implants during the actual surgery. ⭐ Customisation vs. Visualisation: Additive manufacturing excels in customisation, creating patient-specific implants or models. Augmented reality, on the other hand, enhances visualisation and provides real-time guidance during procedures. ⭐ Technological Integration: Future developments might see tighter integration between the two technologies, where 3D-printed objects could contain markers or sensors that interact with AR systems for enhanced intraoperative guidance and feedback. In conclusion additive manufacturing and augmented reality are likely to collaborate, each leveraging its unique strengths to improve patient outcomes, advance medical procedures, and enhance the capabilities of healthcare professionals. 💡 MedScan3D is deeply committed to exploring cutting-edge technologies to bolster medical procedures and empower healthcare professionals in achieving optimal patient outcomes. #additivemanufacturing #augmentedreality Check out a paper which showcases this on a Microtia Reconstruction. https://lnkd.in/e9bSWRBx

Today, Jayme Rossiter and I had the privilege to observe Saleem Jahangeer and his team perform a replacement ascending aorta and aortic valve at St James's Hospital Dublin. A remarkable experience observing such intricate surgical expertise firsthand. We are very excited to begin a project with the team here and with Irish Manufacturing Research on exploring additive manufacturing in the Irish healthcare system. #irishhealthcare #3dprinting #aortareplacement

This morning, we had a wonderful discussion in Platform94 about the upcoming #internationalwomensday on Friday March 8th. We talked about gender equality in our respective roles, shared our role models, discussed challenges we've faced, and shared some words of wisdom. As Hillary Clinton once said, "Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world." Let's make sure we fully tap into this reservoir for greater gender equality. In the spirit of celebrating women, what's your favorite quote by a woman? #InternationalWomensDay Sinéad Bradbury MSc SENr Emily Lohan
