A growing trend for self-insured companies is to give employees Family Building benefits to help financially with IVF, surrogacy or adoption. Many of these company make these benefits inclusive of their LGBTQ+ employees. Michael from New York learned about this trend at the Men Having Babies conference a few years ago and was inspired to get his employer to give these inclusive Family Building benefits. Not only did he succeed and got himself and all the other LGBTQ+ employees of the company the $20k market standard benefit - when he moved to another company he did it again - because his new company did not have any family building benefits when he got there. “I made my [accepting the job offer] dependent on joining the executive benefit committee,” Michael told us. “I sent out an official email that secured my ability to change the company from the inside.” Read Michael's inspiring story on our Benefits blog at https://lnkd.in/gWBSve3w Don't miss the Men Having Babies conference in New York (September 13-15). We'll discuss Family Building Benefits at work among other resources for gay men who want to become dads: menhavingbabies.org/ny #menhavingbabies #gaydads #surrogacy #gayny #employersurrogacybenefits

Before gay men start their journey to fatherhood through surrogacy, many important questions come up. One of the more important questions is figuring out the surrogacy destination, meaning, WHERE you prefer the pregnancy portion of the journey to be held. It's important to make sure that your surrogate is located in a country or a state that practices ethical surrogacy. The location of the surrogate also has implications for insurance, baby's legal papers and, of course, the overall costs. In the upcoming New York Surrogacy Conference for gay men, we'll discuss the implications of choosing the surrogacy destination and considerations that should be made when matching with a surrogate. Choosing your surrogacy destination is a key element in a gay man's decision to have a child through surrogacy. You want to make it ethical - and you also want to make it legal. 'Legal' means that the baby that is born is YOURS. That you have all the paperwork needed for the birth country and your home country that secure your guardianship of your baby. And also - you want to protect your surrogate and your egg donor with the legal documents they need. The laws of the country where your baby is born is particularly important, especially for gay men. In the upcoming Men Having Babies conference in New York we will discuss extensively about legal issues, and will provide you an opportunity to consult with attorneys specifically about your region (no matter where you come from). MHB NEW YORK Speaker added! Ronnie will speak in the Personal Stories Panel on Saturday, September 14 at 6:15pm. Ronnie and husband Dennis had a child via surrogacy, and they received financial assistance from Ronnie's company CT Corporation. "We have two benefits that assisted in our surrogacy journey," Ronnie explained. "We have a $10K lifetime reimbursement program that is provided through Kindbody at no cost, and they also offer a MetLife Legal Plan through our annual benefits which offer a plethora of legal services. Reproductive care is one of those." "We have up to 20 Hours of legal services at no cost which is well worth the cost of the plan itself. In addition the plan covers second parent adoption as well as other adoption services but the second parent adoption is specific to the surrogacy." Ronnie says that they learn about the benefits from the corporation annual updates. "Each year they let us know what’s new," Ronnie says. "The MetLife legal has been around for a long time so they hadn’t mentioned anything about it until last October when they started the What’s New Campaign where they specifically spoke about how much more we are going to receive in 2024 for reproductive care and family planning benefits."
