BE HEARD. BE HELPED.
About us
Mental Health Advocates of WNY (MHAWNY) promotes mental health and wellness and supports individuals and families challenged by mental illness. When you or a family member is struggling with mental illness it can be hard to know where to turn. If you are looking for answers, we can help navigate the mental health care system and offer linkage to treatment and other support services. Since 1962, advocacy is at the core of what we do. Through awareness, education, prevention and early intervention programs, peer support, pro bono civil legal counsel, and other support services, MHAWNY actively promotes mental health and wellness for adults, children and families in homes, schools and workplaces across Western New York. Formerly Mental Health Association of Erie County, MHAWNY changed its name in 2018 to reflect the current programs, mission and geographic areas served by the non-profit agency. Advocacy. Guidance. Education. Answers. We are hear to listen. We are here to help. There is always hope.

We hosted our Annual Dinner on Thursday, May 2nd at The Powerhouse. This was a powerful evening, focused on celebrating those who inspire change by promoting mental health and wellness in our community. It was a memorable evening with auctions, raffles, drinks and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a sit-down dinner and program with honored guest Kendall Toole of Peloton! A very grateful thank you to BestSelf Behavioral Health and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York for their compassionate support of MHA, as well as Catholic Charities USA, Cobey Inc, Erie County Medical Center, Horizon Health Services and New Era Cap in helping to make this event a major success! #mentalhealthmatters

With May being Mental Health Awareness Month and Women’s Health Month, Melinda was the perfect choice for this month’s cover. A Western New York native, Melinda grew up in Jamestown, New York, and completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University at Buffalo, where she obtained a Master of Social Work degree. Regarding why Melinda chose this degree, she says, “I watched the journey of a close family member who had a mental health diagnosis, and the strength of my mom, who was a teacher’s aide. She was my hero.” https://lnkd.in/g4hzSqa4 #covermodel #coverstory #buffalohealth #healthyliving #womenshealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth
