On Women's Equality Day, we’re proud to highlight our commitment to empowering female leaders to live out their calling of service to others in the community, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. Through Mercy Women in Leadership’s outreach committee, our female leaders have supported numerous community outreach programs, like the Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas which helps children who have lived in abusive homes; or Rung for Women in St. Louis, Missouri which accelerates the careers of women by building confidence and learning new skills to climb the economic ladder. Since its inception, Mercy Women in Leadership has connected with more than 900 attendees and beneficiaries, and raised nearly $40,000 to support individuals in need. These efforts are more than just events and dollar signs — they’re steps toward achieving true equality in leadership. Together, we’re shaping a future where every woman has the opportunity to lead!

Reverend Dennis Heck lived life to the fullest. He loved people and people loved him. They trusted him and sought him out when they needed someone to listen and care. Dennis was an ordained minister and served as a full-time chaplain at Mercy Hospital Jefferson for more than 30 years. He started many initiatives that improved the lives of our patients, including a grief support group, daily devotionals read over the hospital intercom and an annual Chaplains’ Fund Charity Auction to raise money for patients in need of prescription medications and transportation. Rev. Heck lived a healthy life until he was diagnosed with bone cancer in October 2020, which had spread to the point that treatment wouldn’t be effective. He passed away on June 1, 2022, at the age of 73. Before his death, Dennis wanted to ensure that his compassion for the underserved would carry on without him. He made a generous legacy gift to Mercy Health Foundation to support the area of greatest need in his community and provide for the educational needs of Mercy caregivers. His legacy will continue to touch lives and be a blessing for generations to come.
