Located in east Dallas County, Texas, Mesquite ISD welcomes over 38,000 students everyday through the doors of our 51 campuses, including 33 elementary schools, nine middle schools, five high comprehensive schools, Vanguard High School and the Mesquite Academy.   • Congratulations to Daniel Contreras, our new director of facilities for Mesquite ISD! Daniel Contreras has worked for Mesquite ISD for 31 years. His first assignment in the district was in the plumbing department as a journeyman plumber. He earned an irrigator license and served as the district’s irrigator. He eventually earned his master’s plumber license and was promoted to a supervisory role. He is currently a facilities project manager and has held the position for more than seven years. Additionally, he holds an asbestos program manager license. Contreras attended Mesquite schools from elementary through high school and graduated from the West Mesquite High School graduating in the top 5% in the class of 1985. #MISDExcellence

  • Introducing the next Judge Frank Berry Middle School Principal, Mr. Terry Riley. Our new leader of the Berry Bears has completed 14 years in the field of education, all right here in Mesquite ISD. Throughout his career, Riley has served as an associate principal at Dr. John D. Horn High School, an assistant principal at Berry MS, and an English teacher at A.C. New Middle School. Riley holds a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education both from Stephen F. Austin University. #ExcellenceHappensHere

  • Congratulations to Dr. Grubbs, who will assume a new role as the director of continuous improvement at Mesquite ISD! Dr. Holly Grubbs is a dedicated educational leader with over 23 years of experience, all within Mesquite ISD. She received her doctorate from Southern Methodist University, With extensive experience as a school principal, Dr. Grubbs has been recognized for her exemplary leadership, receiving the principal of the year award and the TEPSA Student Leadership Award. Throughout her career, Dr. Grubbs has gained a deep understanding of school programs, curriculum development and effective leadership strategies. #MISDExcellence

  • Meet the new principal Kimbrough Middle School, Lacy Starnes! Lacy’s career as an educator began 15 years ago at John Horn High School, where she served as a teacher and coach before becoming an instructional coach there in 2016. In 2018, she joined Terry Middle School as assistant principal before moving into the role of assistant principal/instructional dean at West Mesquite High School in 2020. Lacy earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M-Commerce and her master’s degree from Lamar University. #MISDExcellence

  • Introducing our new Director of Professional Learning, Jennifer Hiser. Ms. Hiser is currently serving as the coordinator for Professional Learning Services at Mesquite ISD. She oversees the administration of several teacher pipeline programs, while also conducting data analysis and leading professional development initiatives for various groups of MISD educators. Hiser brings more than 15 years of teaching experience, having previously taught fourth-grade, eighth-grade, high school math and college economics. She also served as an instructional coach for new teachers at John Horn High School. Her commitment to professional development is evident in her educational background, which includes the ETIP program for which she has served as a participant and instructor, and as a facilitator for the new teacher academy. Hiser is a graduate of Texas A&M University for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. #MISDExcellence

  • Introducing the new Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning, Matt Cain. Mr. Cain is a product of Mesquite ISD, having attended Pirrung Elementary School, Berry Middle School and eventually graduated from Horn High School. Following graduation, Cain earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, and master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Cain was an eighth-grade science teacher before eventually becoming a science instructional coach. Following his time as an instructional coach, Cain served as the secondary science facilitator, supporting 6th-12th grade science across all Mesquite ISD middle and high schools. After two years in the secondary science facilitator role, he was hired as the K-12 science coordinator, the position in which he currently serves. #MISDExcellence

  • Karla Joseph will serve as an assistant principal of North Mesquite High School in the fall. Help us welcome her to #NorthSidePride! Karla Joseph has completed 10 years in the field of education. She began her career as a 7th-grade English language arts teacher at Dallas ISD. Joseph has taught in both Richardson and Forney ISD. She has served as a lead and mentor teacher, educational coach, program facilitator, and administrative intern throughout her career. She has served the last two years as an assistant principal in Dallas ISD. Joseph earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. #MISDExcellence

  • Join us in welcoming Maresa Ramos Bailey to #NorthSidePride as the Principal of North Mesquite High School. Maresa Ramos Bailey has completed 27 years in the field of education. Her educational career has included being a principal and assistant principal at Lakeview Centennial High School, assistant principal at O’Banion Middle School, English teacher, journalism teacher and JV drill team director at Rowlett High School all in Garland ISD. While serving as a high school principal at Lakeview Centennial, the campus was recognized and ranked multiple years by US News and World Report for Best High Schools. In 2022, she began serving as Executive Director of School Leadership at Crandall ISD. Bailey received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and superintendent certification all from the University of North Texas. #MISDExcellence
