After four years, Metro is back in Ottawa’s ByWard Market, opening our brand-new store, the 132nd store for the banner. The store has hired a team of 125 employees and features products and services tailored to the needs of the community. The store has officially been named Metro Rideau while the decor features photos of local landmarks to pay tribute to the surrounding community. To emphasize our commitment to playing an active role in our communities, Metro donated $10,000 the Ottawa Food Bank, a partner of Feed Ontario, to help support those in need. Thank you to everyone who made this grand opening a huge success! 

We are pleased to announce the success of the Annual Metro Ontario Charity Golf Tournament, held on July 15th at RattleSnake Point in Milton and Glen Abbey in Oakville. Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of all partners and participants, we raised nearly $500,000 for United Way, Feed Ontario, and Breakfast Club of Canada - Club des petits déjeuners! 

METRO achieved the honour of receiving the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) - Toronto Ace Awards' Best in Show for the Feed the Joy Campaign at last Thursday’s gala in Toronto. The awards recognize outstanding work in public relations and strategic communications, judged by some of the industry's most distinguished leaders. This exceptional performance also included GOLD for the Marketing Communications Campaign of the Year and Best Use of Special Events or Experiential Marketing. Congratulations to every colleague and partner involved. We are thrilled to announce that 10 of our Metro stores have won a 2023 Foodland Ontario Retailer Award! This program recognize excellence in display and promotion of Ontario foods and support of Foodland Ontario, highlighting Metro’s commitment toward local sourcing. Congratulations to all our stores for their commitment to local foods. 

After months of hard work and dedication, we are excited to announce the completion of major upgrades to our Metro store in St. Thomas! Our grand re-opening was a true celebration, marked by the presence of special guests Joe Preston, Mayor of St. Thomas, City Councillor Tara McCaulley, and Karen McDade, General Manager of the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank. We've tailored the store to better serve the evolving needs of our customers, and we can't wait for everyone to experience the enhancements firsthand. In line with METRO's purpose to nourish the health and well-being of our communities, we are proud to donate $2,500 to the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making our store re-opening a resounding success. 

Celebrating the holidays with joy and connection! Metro had the pleasure of hosting Feed the Joy cooking classes with Ontario Seniors' Organizations, uniting generations through the magic of food. In Ottawa, Kingston, and Toronto, seniors and community members cooked together, sharing family recipes and creating lasting bonds. To honour these wonderful connections, Metro donated $1,500 to each organization.  Happy Holidays!

Make a donation! Until December 27, visit your local Metro and make a donation to Feed Ontario as part of our Healthy Together campaign. In 2022, $2.8 million were donated to our community partners thanks to this fundraising campaign. Every donation counts!

We are thrilled that Metro is once again taking part at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, championing Ontario's vibrant local foods and raising awareness about food waste. Our interactive display zone, spanning over 7,000 square feet, is for Ontario vendors participating in Metro's Locally Sourced program, along with winners from this year's Royal food competitions in the Champions Showcase. "Spotlight on Local presented by Metro" will feature 20 vendors from seven different regions across Ontario, offering fair attendees a delectable tasting experience of some of the finest local products. In our commitment to sustainability, we've introduced a new digital kiosk with an interactive game titled, "Test Your Food Waste IQ." This engaging feature sheds light on the lifecycle of food and provides valuable tips to minimize food waste at home. With a focus on education, engagement, and celebration, Metro's presence at this year's fair promises to be an enriching experience for all attendees. Congratulations to Charles Buhagiar, Senior Category Business Manager of OTC and Health & Wellness, Metro Ontario, for receiving the Grocery Business 2023 Cutting Edge Innovator in Whole Health award.
