Thank you to Creative Pinellas and Tony Wong Palms for this fascinating and detailed review of "Lizzi Bougatsos & Lonnie Holley: Never the Same Song." "In a nutshell, this is an exhibition of two extremely different persons discussing humanity in personal and universal perspectives – in its beauty and ugliness, in the unexpected, in sometimes unwanted voices, in ungainly, and in poetic forms. In all, revealing identities we might see in the mirror". The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg recently announced an important reattribution in the collection. In 1969, the MFA was gifted an exceptional pastel portrait long believed to be by noted British painter Francis Cotes. The sitter, an elegant woman in a fur-trimmed coat, was identified as the artist’s wife, whom he married in 1765. This attribution remained unchallenged for over fifty years, yet it is now determined to be incorrect. Current scholarship reveals that the work is almost certainly by Katherine Read, another equally important, though historically less well-known, artist. We are delighted to have this important discovery and reattribution featured in the Museum section of Artnet News.
