August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) – a collaborative effort to save & heal lives within diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, eye & tissue donation. Why is NMDAM needed? 60% of patients on the national transplant waiting list are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in multiethnic communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease contribute to organ failure - especially kidney failure. NMDAM is a collaborative effort of the National Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation Multicultural Action Group (NMAG). #DonateLife #NMDAM

We save lives through excellence in organ and tissue donation.
About us
Since 1974, Mid-America Transplant has served as the regional organ and tissue procurement organization for eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, and northeast Arkansas, serving 4.7 million people in 84 counties. From our founding goal to assist in the coordination of kidney donations, we have grown to become a multi-faceted organization dedicated to saving lives and enhancing the quality of all donated organs and tissues currently available for transplant. Located in Saint Louis, Missouri, Mid-America is one of 56 federally designated organizations of its kind in the United States. Mid-America Transplant's primary service offering is to facilitate and coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. With a mission to save lives through excellence in organ and tissue donation, we have been at the forefront of enhancing the quality of organs and tissue for transplant and a leader in eye bank services. Throughout our history, we have relentlessly pursued our core values of compassion, collaboration, excellence, innovation, integrity, and stewardship to create a positive donation experience for Donor Families, which is at the heart of what matters most to Mid-America Transplant.

Our clinical laboratory plays a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of those who receive the gift of life. Last week, our Director of Laboratory Services, Amber Carriker, collaborated with Dr. Sam Ho from Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network and Selena Warden from Southwest Transplant Alliance to present “The Gift of Life: The Remarkable Role the Clinical Laboratory Plays in Organ Donation" at the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine. Additionally, the laboratory is critical in our ability to steward the gifts of organ and tissue donors. Thank you to Amber and the entire laboratory staff for all you do in advancing our mission and keeping our laboratory at the leading edge of innovation. #Excellence #Innovation #Collaboration #SayYesGiveLife #ADLM2024

The majority of those who register as organ donors will never be able to donate organs. In our latest blog, we explain why organ donation is so rare and emphasize the importance of joining the organ, eye, and tissue donor registry. #SayYesGiveLife #DonateLife https://lnkd.in/gnAdY6_a

2024 marks 50 years since Mid-America Transplant first started facilitating and coordinating organ, eye, and tissue donation in our region. This incredible milestone would not have been possible without the work of our dedicated staff, whose compassion and collaboration have fueled our mission for half of a century. This July, we held a gathering for employees filled with food, games, and a photo booth. Thank you to our celebration committee for planning this event. Here’s to another 50 years of innovation and excellence, as we strive to ensure that organs and tissues are available to those in need. #UntilNoOneIsWaiting #EmployeeAppreciation #MadeForTheMission
