New data transparency reinforces what we have long known: hospital prices are out of control, and we can’t rely on health systems and health plans to course correct. In fact, data indicate that for most hospitals a “fair price” for patients who are privately insured by employers is 140%–200% of what Medicare pays for the exact same procedures and services at the exact same facilities — with some hospitals charging more than 500% of Medicare prices. A fair price should allow for a reasonable markup from verifiable costs, yet hospital associations continue to support industry opacity rather than collaborating with employers and other plan sponsors to move from revenue focused to value alignment. Oncology Learning Collaborative (OLC) Employer Guide -- Launched! https://lnkd.in/gHqjSVZy In the Fall of 2023, MBGH and the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value collaborated with employer members to share insights, information and resources in their management of oncology benefits and to ensure these benefits accomplished the 5 patient rights – right care, right person, right place, right time and right price. Key topics included: *Prevention, Screening/Testing, Early Identification & Site of Care *Navigation, Psychosocial Support, Survivorship & Return to Work *Diagnosis, 2nd Opinion, Precision Medicine/Biomarkers & Treatment The OLC produced the "Employer Guide and Insights for Oncology Management" which launched last week at the June 26th MBGH pharmacy forum.
