  • We are thrilled to share that Senator John Velis has presented MiraVista Behavioral Health Center and the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts with a special citation from the Statehouse! This recognition honors our dedicated efforts to support adolescent mental health during the crucial summer months, when schools are out and the need for vigilance is high. Thanks to Senator Velis' unwavering support, our mission to nurture the mental well-being of our youth has received a significant boost. This citation is not simply a piece of paper; it’s a beacon of recognition for the hard work and dedication of our staff who work tirelessly to provide comprehensive care and support to our community's youth. They have embraced the challenge, and are at the heart of the changes we see among the patients in our care. Senator Velis’ commitment to mental health and his proactive stance in supporting MiraVista ensures that mental health remains a priority in our legislative agenda. We are inspired by his dedication and are more committed than ever to continue our work with even greater enthusiasm and dedication. Especially now as the school bell rings and adolescents transition to a new academic year. A huge thank you to Senator Velis and everyone at the Statehouse for this honor. • Today marks the beginning of a week of awareness leading up to International Overdose Awareness Day, Saturday, August 31st which carries the 2024 theme Together We Can. Promoters of the initiative, the Penington Institute, suggest starting the week leading to IOAD by gathering with friends or family to remember lost loved ones and the grief of those left behind. Coming together at an IOAD event, which many areas have, helps unite communities as well around the importance of substance use treatment and the support necessary for those in need of it. Recent statistics show that more than 100,000 drug overdoses deaths occur each year in the U.S., but better understanding of addiction, a disease whose management is often marked by relapse, along with access to evidence-based treatment such as that which is provided here at MiraVista, harm reduction and peer support can help prevent overdose deaths. Outpatient recovery services with walk-in admission at MiraVista Behavioral Health Center include for its Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). 🍂 As school doors open and the evening temps fall, we begin to say goodbye to the long, sunny days of summer and prepare to greet the crisp, colorful arrival of fall, it's important to discuss an often overlooked aspect of this transition: Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) SAD is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons, beginning and ending at about the same times every year. For many, symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, tapping energy and bringing about mood changes. What to Watch For: Feeling lethargic or moody Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed Changes in sleep patterns or appetite Difficulty concentrating As we say goodbye to summer and hello to the beautiful colors of autumn, take note of how you are feeling. Prioritize your mental health and remember, MiraVista is just a call or click away, ready to help you manage any challenges this season -- or any season -- may bring. https://lnkd.in/en3fePmm #MentalHealthAwareness

Medical Transporters are usually the ones doing the delivering, but yesterday such professionals were recipients of Rice Fruit Farm of Wilbraham's popular Apple Cider Doughnuts as a thank you from MiraVista Behavioral Health Center. The doughnuts were hand-delivered to several provider sites across the region in recognition of August 20th as the Day of Medical Transporters. The day honors ambulance drivers and other emergency medical transporters who ensure patients in need of critical care arrive safely at treatment facilities. MiraVista serves thousands of patients from across the state annually with many arriving for inpatient psychiatric care by ambulance. The doughnut delivery surprised and pleased the emergency medical transporters who are vital members of every community and the service they provide, invaluable. Medical transporters "doughnut" forget how much MiraVista appreciates all you do to support our patients in their ability to access treatment! Cataldo Ambulance Service Inc.
