Projects of interest include the following: Produced and placed over 40,000 cubic yards of Geofill Low Density Cellular Concrete adjacent to MSE walls on the Expo LTR Phase 2 in California. Daily production rates of over 1,000 cubic yards were achieved. Production and long distance pumping of Geofill LD foam concrete to backfill the Brightwater East Tunnel in Washington. Over 70,000 cubic yards of low density materials were placed with pumping distances exceeding 2.5 miles. Produced and placed over 5,000 cubic yards of Geofill LD over existing floors as a leveling course at Modera Lofts in New Jersey. Other projects of interest include under water placements of Geofill LD Marine grout. Geofill LD Marine cellular (foam) concrete is specifically formulated for use in underwater placement applications. Geofill LD Marine is a lightweight, impervious material which remains in a cohesive, well blended mix when placed or pumped into a submerged environment. We have completed several projects in the NY/NJ area to encapsulate and protect timber piles that were under attack by Shipworms, Marine Borers and other organisms. This method of repair/protection is a preferred choice to either replacement or wrapping of individual piles. Due to the weakness of the river bottom soils, it is important to keep the protective backfill material close to the weight of water.

MixOnSite Project: Transportation Infrastructure Where: Jamaica Queens, NY GC: MLJ Contracting Corp and J-Track, LLC Material: 5,000cy, 33+/-pcf Geofill Permeable Low Density Cellular Concrete (PLDCC) In high-traffic areas such as Queens, NY bringing in 5,000 cy of traditional backfill to an area can prove itself difficult. Couple that with little to no truck access on-site and the need to crane or conveyor the backfill material over a wall, can make for logistical challenges. MLJ Contracting Corp had the foresight and experience with Geofill Low Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC) to see the value it could add to this project. The use of Geofilll PLDCC allowed for pumping of the material from street level over a 20’+ wall. It also reduced vertical loads on the soil and lateral loads to the T-walls for the Rail Bridge. The other challenge to overcome was the need for the backfill to be as permeable as possible but still maintain higher strengths.
