Updates

  • Shaping a sustainable future for Missouri’s forests! 🌳 Some of our SNR Community helped lead a recent Forest and Wildlife Management Workshop hosted by MU Extension! Landowners from across Missouri gathered in Portland, MO for a property tour to learn about sustainable harvesting, prescribed fire and management for wildlife. Forestry professionals presented at each tour stop, including: Brain Schweiss, SNR instructor and State Extension Specialist in Sustainable Forestry; Billy McCaslin, a recent SNR graduate and Forestry Management Educator for MU Extension; and Ren Steevens, a current Natural Resources Science and Management student. Landowners also had the opportunity to meet with professionals from Missouri Department of Conservation and Consulting Foresters.

This course is an introduction to the biology of trees, allowing students to practice identifying trees and learn about ecology, geographic distribution and the economic significance of forest species. Last week, our fall dendrology labs took a tour of the types of trees here on Mizzou’s campus!
