Child care is an economic issue. Moms cannot work without affordable, available child care. And the reality is, is child care is neither affordable nor available. Help us #GetChildCareontheRecord by taking action here: https://lnkd.in/gEUbVJK5 Because if candidates up and down the ballot aren’t telling us their plans to tackle the child care crisis NOW, they sure as hell won’t do anything about it when they are in office. 🎥 : Reshma Saujani with Axios at #DNC2024

The Cost of Childcare is Keeping Me Out of the Workforce 📰 ‼️ 🗞️ My Letter to the Editor published in the 8/19 Trenton Times outlined how $5000 for daycare for my #ThreeUnderThree is the norm and it shouldn’t be. We are being asked to choose between affordable OR quality childcare and we shouldn’t be. This problem affects many of us and people remain unheard and we shouldn’t be. Thanks to Moms First for the encouragement! Let’s #GetChildcareOnTheRecord. *link in comments

Our founder and CEO, Reshma Saujani, joined Axios at #DNC2024 to talk about mom’s number one concern when it comes to the cost of living: child care. “Parents have a once in a lifetime opportunity to push on their elected officials to ensure that #childcare and #paidleave are the most important issues in this election.” Read the full piece from Axios' Megan Morrone: https://lnkd.in/gmpB7Xkq

📢 Cool opportunity to share your #Motherhood story: We are chatting with a reporter who is interested in speaking with parents who has bought or are in the process of buying homes, specifically as a result of / influenced by their childcare needs. For example, someone who has (either alone or with a partner) bought a house or a duplex, or consciously rented in the same apartment building with friends, other parents, etc, for built-in community care. (i.e. this parent chose this living arrangement for ease of class pick-ups, switching off child care and date night, etc.) Similarly, they'd love to connect with anyone who has recently looked into communal living (either formal or ad-hoc like the above) and decided against it, or people who are moving to their friends' neighborhoods and then splitting a private care giver because it's cheaper than day care, etc. We know child care is crushing parents and you're getting creative to make it work for you and your family. Send us a message, along with your email address, if you're open to connecting. We'd love to make these connections by the end of the day on Wed, 8/21 and we'll update this post when we have the stories we need. Thanks!

✉️ Letters to the editor (LTE) are a simple, yet powerful tool to make your voice heard. But if you have never written one before, it can be tough to know where to start. Sometimes seeing an example helps a ton! Check out this powerful letter from Lauren in Montana that was published in the Missoulian/Ravalli Republic earlier this week. We absolutely LOVE to see it! Need more help? We put together an easy-to-follow guide for writing and submitting a LTE in your local paper. Check out momsfirst.us/ontherecord to get started.

Getting child care on the record in all 50 states won’t be easy, but we are amazed by the progress our community has made in just a few short days! Some quick #Motherhood Spotlight shout outs for a few of you who have already taken action: ⭐ Nicole from New York’s Hudson Valley submitted a LTE at the Times Herald Record ⭐ Melanie in Utah created our first public Motherhood Meetup to host moms in her community to take action together ⭐ Vanessa from Kansas rallied her LinkedIn followers to join the Get Child Care on the Record If you haven’t taken action yet, have no fear! We’ve made it simple to take action and there are 3️⃣ meaningful ways to #GetChildCareontheRecord:  🙋♀️ Attend a local campaign community event and ask candidates about their plans to support child care. With many elected officials coming home for August recess, the next few weeks are a perfect time to be heard. ✍️ Write and submit a letter to the editor (LTE) of your local paper. Trust me, letters to the editor might feel old-fashioned but they get read every day by elected officials and campaign staff. 📢 Simply post about your child care experience on social media. The easiest and most effective way to raise the issue of child care is to tell your story. Make sure and tag @momsfirstus when you share so we can uplift your voice! So proud to be in this fight with all of us – let’s keep this up! Visit our campaign hub for helpful resources and tips for taking action: momsfirst.us/ontherecord
