Today, RWJBarnabas Health experienced an unexpected global Microsoft outage that, if not managed aggressively and effectively, could have caused significant disruption to the health system. While we continue to work through technical issues, normal operations have resumed across the system. The ingenuity and teamwork demonstrated by RWJBarnabas Health’s workforce was exemplary. Led by the system’s Information Technology Department and Office of Emergency Management, their tireless efforts to resolve issues quickly and efficiently were critical in maintaining patient safety during a time of uncertainty. We thank our patients and community members for their patience and support, and commend our employees for their unwavering dedication and commitment. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

At this time, many disruptions caused by the global Microsoft outage have been resolved across RWJBarnabas Health. Trinitas Regional Medical Center continues to experience minor operational impact which is anticipated to be resolved within the next several hours. So proud of our nursing teams . . . MMCSC’s 5H Med/Surg nursing team has adopted a fun movement board to get patients up and out of bed. Evidence proves the benefit of mobilizing patients early because it can decrease hospital length of stay, reduce falls and other risks. The movement board concept was borrowed from another health care facility and introduced to MMCSC by Chief Nursing Officer, Mabel LaForgia. The team has adopted it fully and called it the “Movin’ on Up” Program. The board was created by Brittany Walsh, BSN, RN, CMSRN, Unit Nurse Leader.   Patient mobility is a top priority for the 5H team. The majority of patients may be post-operative surgical or total joint replacement, whose physicians want to see them out of bed quickly.   With the help of inpatient Physical Therapy, a patient’s functional status is identified and a mobility plan is put in place, including using the movement board.  “Sometimes the challenge is to get patients up to move their own ‘people’ on the board, explains Brittany. “It’s important for our patients to go home and recover from their initial procedure or diagnosis when admitted to the hospital, and mitigate muscle or cognitive weakness challenges. We want our patients to increase strength, mobility and balance before discharge so they have better outcomes at home and avoid readmission.”

Proud to share the announcement that RWJBarnabas Health has been awarded a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (NJFSI) to support a first-of-its-kind program in New Jersey to embed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Navigators in each of its 12 acute care hospitals, including us!
