As of July 1st, Chicago has ended the 14(c) subminimum wage for workers with disabilities, a U.S. Department of Labor program which allowed companies to pay workers with disabilities less for the same work. Mayor Brandon Johnson and MOPD Commissioner Arfa held a roundtable discussion with disability advocates and business leaders to celebrate this important step for disability employment on the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Thanks to all of our partners for making this possible!

Two years ago, we opened the MOPD Career Center, serving job seekers with disabilities throughout Chicago. The Americans with Disabilities Act protects the rights of job seekers with disabilities to work and get the accommodations they need at work. At the Career Center, we are honored to guide job seekers every day to their next job or a new career. We also work with Chicago employers so that they can be more inclusive to people with disabilities! And we are just getting started. Whether you want help with your job search or are hiring, we hope you will connect with us today. https://lnkd.in/guwJGZR5

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed on this day in 1990. Disability advocates worked for decades for people with disabilities to be protected under this law. MOPD Commissioner Rachel Arfa shares her thoughts on the ADA Anniversary, as well as two important ways the Department is supporting people with disabilities at work and those who are survivors of gun and community violence. https://lnkd.in/ekZ-CTNj
