About us
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation provides grants to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable New Yorkers, bolster the health outcomes of diverse communities, eliminate barriers to care, and bridge gaps in health services. It seeks to promote, sponsor, and support activities, programs, and initiatives that enhance access to affordable quality healthcare and healthcare-related services and address the unmet healthcare and healthcare related needs of communities across New York State, including, in each case, the social determinants of health, consistent with the ethical principles, tenets, and teachings of the Roman Catholic Faith. Since its inception, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation has awarded approximately 2,200 grants, totaling nearly $635 million, to nonprofits, community-based organizations, and healthcare and social services providers across New York State.

The major shortage of nurses in hospitals across New York State is a major concern. We’ve made it our mission to uncover — and address — the reasons why. We’ve just launched our brand-new report with the Center for Health Workforce Studies on New York’s nursing shortage, exposing the major factors contributing to the shortage and the best strategies to address them. Through this research, we’ve confirmed one crucial fact: there is no single “silver bullet” to improving RN recruitment and retention. From education to workplace culture, we need to increase support for every facet of the nursing experience. That’s how we shape better outcomes for these indispensable #healthcare heroes. This #AAPIHeritageMonth, we want to uplift a few of our grantees who are dedicated to serving their communities. Working at the intersections of community-building and inclusion, these organizations are shining examples of New York’s AAPI-founded and focused nonprofits. Chinese-American Planning Council is dedicated to the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Their program areas span various issues and age groups; from education to family support, CPC is a trusted resource and home for thousands of New Yorkers. Sakhi for South Asian Survivors is a survivor-led movement against gender-based violence. With services such as counseling, advocacy, housing assistance and more, they are at the forefront of their movement to support South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities. Community Inclusion and Development Alliance creates programs that aim to include all members of the community, and has grown into one of the largest Asian-American networks of families, professionals, and community partners in the country. They focus on inclusive community programs, family support, and advocacy. Asian American Federation exists to raise the influence and well-being of the pan-Asian American community in NY. Their numerous programs are dedicated to the safety, mental health, civic engagement, and overall empowerment of members across NY. This #NationalNursesWeek, we thank nurses for their tireless work to shape healthier, more equitable communities. We are honored to support several organizations working to strengthen and improve the nursing workforce across the state—check out these grantees to learn how they’re supporting New York’s nurses: Hunter College Cabrini-Hunter Fellowships for Social Work and Nursing Students has provided over $850k in tuition assistance, supporting nearly 30 students with tuition costs and fees each academic year. Nurses Middle College Charter High School-Capital Region in Albany preps high school students for college with a focus on nursing and general health, providing mentorship, internships, trainings, and more. Le Moyne College in Syracuse, supports healthcare professionals who were educated and trained abroad with obtaining the credentials and certifications needed to practice in the US. They also support students from underrepresented communities with scholarships and academic support towards careers in healthcare.

Our grantee, Central New York Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Alliance, is celebrating four years of impactful work across NY State. Since its inception in 2019, the Alliance has been on a mission to combat the urgent tick-borne disease epidemic in NY, specifically the CNY region. This growing health crisis has disproportionately impacted vulnerable populations who don’t have access to the same information and resources to deal with potential infection. Thankfully, The Central New York Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Alliance has worked tirelessly over the past 4 years growing from a pilot education program to a full-functioning organization. In their 2023 annual update, the Alliance shared their tremendous strides in raising awareness, driving education, and offering support to those affected by Lyme disease. Some of their annual highlights include: - Growing from 0 staff in 2020 to a team of 10 in 2023 - Sharing 2,500 tick kits plus added 1,000 youth bags and flashlights in 2023 - Distributing 17,000 educational handouts from 2020-2023 - Expanding their advocacy efforts and earning a $50,000 NYS award and a $75,000 award from Onondaga County to continue their crucial work Read more about their astounding accomplishments below and on their website, cnylymealliance.org
