The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is excited to mark our first 5 years of responsive grantmaking to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable New Yorkers. Last year, we proudly supported more than 500 nonprofits and invested $172 million under new program areas to improve access to care for immigrants and other underserved populations, meet the mental health needs of children and adults, address social determinants of health, and strengthen our healthcare workforce. Together, we’re building a brighter future for New York. Learn more about how our grantee partners are meeting community health needs and closing the gap on disparities across New York State. About us
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation provides grants to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable New Yorkers, bolster the health outcomes of diverse communities, eliminate barriers to care, and bridge gaps in health services. It seeks to promote, sponsor, and support activities, programs, and initiatives that enhance access to affordable quality healthcare and healthcare-related services and address the unmet healthcare and healthcare related needs of communities across New York State, including, in each case, the social determinants of health, consistent with the ethical principles, tenets, and teachings of the Roman Catholic Faith. Since its inception, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation has awarded approximately 2,200 grants, totaling nearly $635 million, to nonprofits, community-based organizations, and healthcare and social services providers across New York State.

The growing childhood obesity epidemic and increasing rates of food insecurity can lead to a range of health concerns for our children, from the development of chronic illnesses to behavioral challenges. As we mark National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, we applaud our grantee partners across New York who are on the front lines of expanding access to steady and nutritious meals for kids in communities most in need. Thank you, New York Common Pantry, Met Council, and the many other organizations we proudly support that are removing barriers to healthy and culturally appropriate food options for children and families. Low literacy skills has a direct impact on health outcomes and disparities. Approximately 3.9 million people in New York State are functionally illiterate; 43% of adults with the lowest literacy skills live in poverty. Since the pandemic, the challenges around literacy have deepened among our youth. The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is committed to addressing these major determinants of health in our community and proudly support nonprofits like the Mary Ann Shaw Center Syracuse University Literacy Initiative and Literacy Corps to improve literacy for students in their local school district. Learn more about how our grantee partners are addressing social determinants of health for the most vulnerable New Yorkers.
