Move For Hunger mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need.

About us

Move For Hunger is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need. As you may be aware, many people throw out a good deal of “stuff” when they move. Unfortunately, a lot of this “stuff” is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. That’s where we come in! Move For Hunger teams up with professional moving companies, corporate housing providers, relocation management companies, and multifamily apartment communities across the U.S. & Canada to rescue unopened, non-perishable food items from people moving and deliver it to local food banks. In addition to collecting food from people who are moving to new homes, Move For Hunger helps companies and individuals across the United States and Canada organize thousands of successful food drives and employee engagement events each year. Since its founding in 2009, Move For Hunger has delivered more than 32 million pounds of food - that's 26.5 million meals - to food banks and pantries nationwide.

A message from our Founder & Executive Director, Adam Lowy: Today, we celebrate 15 incredible years of Move For Hunger. What started with a simple observation—perfectly good food left behind during moves—has grown into a nationwide movement. Back in 2009, I couldn't stand seeing food go to waste, so I asked our customers if they'd like to donate their non-perishables to local food banks. In just one month, we collected over 300 lbs of food. That moment sparked a question that would change everything: If one company can make this kind of impact, what could an entire network do? Fast forward to today: Movers, the multifamily industry, corporate events, and bulk recovery have all joined our mission. Each success, challenge, and milestone has brought us closer to reducing waste and recovering food for those who need it most. Because of your unwavering support, we've provided over 40 million meals to date.  But we're not stopping here. I invite you to watch this video, share it with your network, and continue this journey with us. Together, we can make an even bigger difference in the next 15 years. Thank you for being a part of this mission. Join us in making our next 15 years even stronger - donate $15 today and help us continue the fight against hunger ➡️ https://vist.ly/3gz3k

Community of the Month: JBLM We welcome Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) as our Community of the Month for August! Located in Tacoma, Washington, this community joined our mission in 2023 and has already provided 566 lbs of food, or approximately 470 meals, for those in need. Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) is the first military housing community to partner with Move For Hunger and is setting an inspiring example of how relocations can become opportunities to fight hunger. Military families often experience frequent moves, and through this partnership, JBLM helps to ensure that any food left behind during relocations doesn't go to waste but instead helps feed those in need. We are proud to have Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM), a Liberty Military Housing property, as part of the Move For Hunger and are thankful for all they do to support our armed forces daily.

Throwback to Provident Bank's ArCANtecture event in Iselin, NJ! This wasn’t just about stacking cans—it was about stacking up team spirit. With 32 participants, they donated 4,000 lbs of non-perishable food, which equals over 3,300 meals! That’s enough to feed 9 families of four for an entire year. These meals were delivered to the Alliance Center for Independence (ACI), supporting New Jersey local families. Want to make your next corporate event truly meaningful? Let’s build something remarkable together! ➡️ https://vist.ly/3gdrs

At our recent ArCANtecture event, teams didn't just build structures—they built connections, tackled challenges, and made a real impact. Alix Hayes from @njnglife shared how the experience was so engaging that she forgot she was volunteering! It was a perfect blend of problem-solving fun and raising awareness about hunger.
