Aspiring global health specialist with interest areas in infectious diseases and epidemiology

Today was extraordinary! 🎉🎈🎊 I attended the maiden edition of the Global Health Dignity Convening, a platform that provided the opportunity to interact with, network and learn from some Global health experts. I learnt so much from the panel discussions, I jotted down about 30 key take home messages📝. Allow me to share my top 5 though: ☆ Global health starts right at your doorstep and within your community! Making an impact through creating solutions to problems within your locality is as important as tackling big issues that transcend international boundaries. For all you know your local solution may actually become the blueprint to solving the big issues internationally. ☆ Always operate with the 3 quotients: Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient(EQ) and the Love Quotient(LQ). These three are the bedrock to successful community engagement. You may have the smartest plans but without EQ and LQ, you may fail to connect with the people you seek to serve and your plans will remain as plans, never evolving into solutions. ☆ Build and nurture your human resource capacity. Connect with people from different backgrounds and fields when you can. Learn from them, grow with them and lend a helping hand when you can. Getting in touch with the right people is pivotal in getting things done as they should. ☆Be open minded and multipotential if possible. Do what works according to the situation. On the field, things don't always work out according to what's in the books. Your open-mindedness and different strengths may be critical in navigating certain unexpected barriers. ☆ Finally, be trustworthy. This is fundamental to all human relations really. But it becomes quintessential in community engagement. The day ended with a very wonderful surprise. I was chosen to be a part of the inaugural Black In Global Health Fellows Program which seeks to nurture the next generation of African global health leaders. A huge thank you to Shadrack Osei Frimpong and his team at Mundaly and at Community Verified for executing such a wonderful initiative. #globalhealth #blackinglobalhealth

I made a big sacrifice today… It was however worth it in the end. The decision to attend this program was a tough one as I had a lot of studying to do especially as my final exam is fast approaching. I did attend and I do not regret making this sacrifice. I was privileged to meet Shadrack Osei Frimpong , the brain behind the program. Thank you so much for the opportunity Dr. I got the chance to interact with my lecturers Emmanuel Odame ALFRED EDWIN YAWSON and learned from their rich experiences as well as that of Dr. Kezia Malm. A few pieces of advice shared by the speakers were ; ✨ Learn how to appreciate and work with people ✨ Learn a second language out of the 6 UN languages eg: French , Arabic , Spanish etc. ✨It’s not enough to just know medicine (just about your field). Learn some finance, technology, be abreast with AI etc. ✨ Try , if it doesn’t work , try again. #Community Verified #Mundaly #ugmsa #globalhealth #yale #consistencychallengewithdrlinkedin #healthspacelinkedintribe

Communities deserve a front-row seat. No more sidelines. They deserve a commanding role in problem identification, resource allocation, and solution evaluation. Period. Let's stop talking about community engagement and start acting on it. Together, we create an ecosystem where community voices are amplified.

Organizations are not islands. Every operation, from manufacturing to marketing, leaves a footprint on the communities they inhabit. This impact, often overlooked, is crucial to understanding and addressing the social determinants of health. It's time for Organisations to step up and measure their influence. Whether it's creating jobs, supporting local economies, or reducing environmental impact, these actions ripple through communities. By tracking and analyzing this data, organizations can identify areas for improvement and contribute meaningfully to societal well-being. Are you measuring your organization’s impact on community well-being? #corporatesocialresponsibility #communitydevelopment #socialdeterminantsofhealth #sustainability #businessforgood

It’s time to flip the script! For too long, communities have been passive recipients of programs and policies, their voices relegated to the margins of decision-making. Imagine a world where communities have real-time input into initiatives directly impacting their lives. A world where their feedback isn't just heard, but acted upon. We must empower communities to share their insights whenever and wherever they are. By doing so, we can build trust, meet Regulations, and ultimately create more sustainable and equitable outcomes. Let’s shift the script. It’s time to recognize them as the invaluable stakeholder they are.

Bringing dignity to community health impact 🚀Yale MD(c), Cambridge PhD | Forbes 30U30 #CommunityVerified.

Mike Bloomberg’s recent billion-dollar donation to Johns Hopkins got me thinking: money is an incredibly wonderful tool… We've got to celebrate the innovation of these billion-dollar businesses instead of often pitting nonprofits against for-profits as the “good” vs. “the bad.” Both sectors need each other to work together for our world to thrive. Shifting from this “them versus us” mindset to one of partnerships is no mean task. Granted, it’s one we must do regardless. To any young person reading this, if you have the drive and the means to build a for-profit startup, I say do that rather than work for a nonprofit. For-profits and nonprofits require different skill sets -- but if you have the aptitude for the for-profit sector, I'd rather you go that route. Look around the interwebs—almost every global giant (Amazon, Apple, etc.) has a philanthropic arm. Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Gates Foundation wouldn’t exist if their founders had failed with Bloomberg and Microsoft. Again, money is a wonderful tool—like fire; it can warm your food or burn down your house. If you can, make more first and employ more people - ethically; then, like Bloomberg, you can give some away to “warm” our world. An amazing week to you. #impact #globalhealth #medicine #money #health
