MWA's San Francisco office had a blast cheering on the #Giants at Oracle Park for our annual #SummerCelebration. #FunFact - MWA had the primary role in providing construction administration to design #architect HOK Sport for the San Francisco Giants #baseball stadium, Oracle Park (formerly Pacific Bell Park). Located in China Basin near downtown #SanFrancisco, Oracle Park takes classic baseball stadium design into the 21st century, like HOK Sport’s other wildly successful designs for Jacobs Field, Camden Yards, and Coors Fields. The new stadium was planned to take advantage of its waterfront location, with seats looking over the diamond to San Francisco Bay. A windowed arcade faces along the water at the south edge of the site. Along the stadium's main street frontages on King and Second Streets, the mass of the stadium is broken up into smaller volumes, with a three-level arcade framed on each end by a clock tower. Brick veneer was used for much of the exterior, recalling the materials and construction of older sports stadiums. The main entrance is stepped back from the street with an ample entry plaza. Auxiliary functions are set behind the entry plaza in a six-story complex. The design team placed open space at each corner of the site, including two waterfront plazas. Pacific Bell Park features improved amenities, including restaurants, sky boxes, and concessions, and is linked to #BayArea communities by #PublicTransportation. To meet a quick construction schedule, MWA assigned full-time staff to the #ConstructionSite and maintained a large online database for #construction administration. We loved celebrating summer in this beautiful community asset that MWA played a hand in bringing to life.

Taryn has been a valued part of MWA for 13 years, acting as both #ProjectArchitect and #ProjectManager on our housing projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. She has always been a passionate advocate for her clients and their projects. In her new role, she leads MWA's Portland housing studio, overseeing all projects and aligning them with our #mission, vision, and values. During The Black Panther #GrandOpening, MWA Founder Michael Willis gave a celebratory #speech: "The Black Panther Grand Opening is truly an opening. An opening of hope for a bright future, an opening for the #community welcoming you into your home, and an opening for the city, showing that we can build places for people, connected to #transportation, connected to services, and connected to each other through thoughtful and joyful #design. When MWA started designing housing, we took care to see how that housing would build community. We wanted to focus on how that work would leave the community and its citizens in a better place. I am proud of what Carlton, Christopher, and the team have done for this project over the last 9 years. I am always glad to see what MWA is doing and how its work continues to bring people, housing, and cities together." #Congratulations to the entire #ProjectTeam for opening opportunities to the people of #Oakland.

Exciting News from St. Helens! Yesterday, CDP celebrated the grand opening of Broadleaf Arbor, a 16-acre campus featuring 239 units of affordable, intergenerational housing. We were joined by speakers Nina Reed, Laura Spidell, #CommissionerMargaretMagruder, and Bryan Guiney! This Community For All Ages includes on-site programming and services provided by EngAGE, Inc., shared community spaces, outdoor play areas, and a wetlands trail to foster connections and support families and seniors. A partnership with #NorthwestOregonHousingAuthority (NOHA), Broadleaf Arbor offers 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments for households earning up to 60% of the area's median income. The site was designed by MWA Architects, Inc. and built by LMC Construction. Thank you to all of our project partners, who were an integral part of making this vision a reality—and to Broadleaf Arbor residents, welcome home!

The 2024 Advancing Construction #Decarbonization Conference is in Denver! Representing our Sustainability Studio, Jean Root (PIC + Director of Sustainability) and Leslee Biggs Randolph (Senior Associate) presented and facilitated a #workshop on how to clarify the #vision and objectives for your #sustainability program, create measurable and actionable #milestones, define budgets for each programmatic phase, and #cultivate staff buy-in and enthusiasm to build momentum.
Leslee Biggs Randolph and I presented the MWA Architects, Inc. decarbonization story today in Denver at the Advancing Construction Decarbonization Conference. We had a lively crowd as we discussed ‘the dark days’ of our emerging understanding of the link between community health and environmental health. If you haven’t attempted to map your company’s journey to decarbonization, try it! It’s illuminating and inspiring (of the work that still needs doing!) https://lnkd.in/g_n6_grv
