This year’s ASU+GSV Summit & ASU+GSV AIR Show represents a watershed moment for the future of education & human capital. 1) AI will enable “Ed Tech” to “cross the chasm” (quantum leap well beyond the classroom). From workforce development to smart-tutoring/mentoring, the boundaries of what constitutes an education vs a human capital play are gone. This will open up exponentially the investment flow, as well as ultimately the IPO pipeline. 2) The purpose of education is in massive flux. Not that long ago, high school graduation and college admission were the standard to strive for. Post-pandemic with attendance rates in free fall, college tuition sky rocketing & degrees being unbundled into micro-creds/certs, there are a slew of prospective pathways for aspiring students. Over the next few years, there will be quite a reckoning at the federal, state and district levels as the end-game zeroes-in on “future-readiness”. 3) We must curate best-of-breed tools for educators. Superintendents, principals and teachers are about to be inundated with a tsunami of new tools; all promising to reduce prep time, increase student engagement and drive greater efficacy. This explosion will make the dot-com implosion look pedestrian. The most savvy leaders will establish labs where they pressure test and roadmap these ideal-suites, so as not to overwhelm an already-fragile classroom dynamic.
