The following is a brief look into Sarah Selzer background and what advice she has to share with others. How did you get introduced to industrial refrigeration? My dad ran the PSM Group at WMI. Growing up, I would help him with valves lists and make training materials. When I started college I went from part time at WMI to full time, and started doing more and more and before I knew it, I was a PSM engineer. What part of the job makes you want to stay in this industry? Codes and Standards are always changing, and I want to help facilities stay up to date with these changes and help bring them up to compliance. What recent industry related challenge have you conquered and are proud to have prevail over? Understanding the new RMP and OSHA standards. What is your favorite job task that you enjoy in this field? Customer meetings. Any meeting. I love interacting with customers and learning something new along the way. I also love a good Compliance Audit. If you could give your younger self advice when you first started, what advice would that be? Read the IIAR Standards. Ask questions. The following is a brief look into Joshua Rees background and what advice he has to share with others. What brought you into industrial refrigeration and why? I lucked into it. I did residential and commercial refrigeration and Publix in Lakeland, needed a tech with freon experience. I learned about ammonia refrigeration at Publix, and I was hooked immediately. The more complicated the better in my book. What do you like most about your job? Using my brain. What is your proudest professional accomplishment? My FL mechanical contractors license. How do you stay motivated during challenges at work? Motivation isn’t a factor. When I have something to do or an issue, I have this compulsion to figure it out and finish it. What words of advice would you give someone new to the industry? Be humble and curious. Never lose that no matter how experienced you get. What goals do you desire to achieve next? Learn to price small projects. Get back into a routine with Nside the Pipe (Industrial Refrigeration Podcast). Start Assholes Anonymous podcast for strengthening mental health for trauma victims.
