It will be a quieter week on the Australia data calendar with focus on NAB’s Business Survey, released on Tuesday. In the US it’s all about #earnings with $C, $JPM and $WFC reporting on Friday. On the data docket, #CPI and #PPI are released with #FOMC Chair Jerome Powell testifying in front of the Senate Banking Committee. Australian #inflation remains on watch. NAB expects the Q2 trimmed mean to come in at 1% q/q and 4% y/y. Uncertainty though remains with NAB’s central view the #RBA will remain on hold, but further tightening as soon as August is a real possibility should the central bank reassess and conclude rates are insufficiently restrictive. #CPI #AUD #RBA #rates #outlook

Locally its all about #inflation with May #CPI released on Wednesday. NAB expects 3.6% y/y growth, unchanged from April. Around the globe its quiet, with #PCE data in the US on Friday, and the #political arena in focus ahead of the first round of #French elections on Sunday plus Biden-Trump have their first #electiondebate. It’s all about #inflation when it comes to global interest rate settings. The #RBA has the luxury of waiting for the full Q2 #CPI print on 31 July before their next meeting with the market focusing on speakers from policy members in the interim. While a first #cut in November has long been pencilled in, NAB says an absence of genuine progress across the domestically sensitive prices this quarter would further skew the #risk to on hold for longer. #rates #inflation #RBA #outlook #CPIpreview #AUD
