Exciting Week with Future Architects! This past month, NAC was thrilled to host an inspiring group of high school and college students, thanks to our fantastic partnership with SoCal NOMA. Our goal was to introduce these bright, diverse minds to the world of architecture, offering them a firsthand glimpse into our daily work and the many possibilities within Arch. Through hands-on experiences, engaging discussions, and shadowing opportunities, we aim to demystify architecture and show these students just how accessible and rewarding it can be. We believe that by supporting and mentoring these future architects, we can help pave the way for more diversity and innovation in the industry. Here's to nurturing new talent and making architecture a field where everyone feels welcome and inspired! A huge thank you to SoCalNOMA - Southern California Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects for their incredible partnership and to all the students who participated. Keep dreaming big, and we can't wait to see where your journeys take you!

Make it Real. When one of our interns reaches the end of their internship, we ask them to choose a Make it statement that resonates with their experience at NAC. Make it statements embody our values as a firm. Evan Sedlacek, an intern in our Seattle office, chose Make it Real because his experience allowed him to take concepts learned in school and see how they come to fruition. He says he was able to leverage his "unique knowledge of Grasshopper and 3D printing to bring a bespoke gradiented metal facade into the realm of possibility." Evan will be completing his education at Kansas State University. Thank you, Evan! Music by Parler/Jamendo/stock.adobe.com Photo 3 by Benjamin Benschneider

We’re proud to announce that a new stretch of the Children of the Sun Trail in Spokane is officially open! Our team was thrilled to attend the ribbon cutting, where we celebrated this significant community milestone. This important extension enhances neighborhood connections across the evolving US 395, which will link downtown Spokane to northern communities. Our team at NAC Engineering ensured the trail is well-lit and welcoming by providing electrical and lighting solutions at key connection points. A big thank you to our partners KPFF, Berger Partnership, Graham Construction, and Colvico for their collaboration on this impactful project. Photos by NAC Architecture. We're honored to announce James Baldwin Elementary School is an A4LE James D. MacConnell Award Finalist!   The James Baldwin Elementary School community challenged us to design a building that answers these three questions: What does equity look like in a building? How can a building support students experiencing homelessness and trauma? How can school architecture support literacy?   The resulting design supports students furthest from educational justice with a “tapestry” of spaces at different scales, where students can interact and feel safe. Project of the Week: The community of East Helena was inspired to build their first high school to give their students a place to learn and grow while feeling safe and supported. Emphasizing connections, the transparent and open state-of-the-art facility lets students and the community know this is where they are welcome and belong. The school is built to serve 600 students with specialized science classrooms, a multi-use commons/cafeteria and adjoining stage, competition gym and auxiliary gym, fine and performing arts programs, and Career Technical Education spaces. Promoting collaboration and project-based learning, several classrooms, or “pods,” surround shared breakout spaces featuring smartboards and technology to connect students with real world experiences. Make It Connected When one of our interns reaches the end of their internship, we ask them to choose a Make It statement that resonates with their experience at NAC. Make It statements embody our values as a firm. Dr. Alana Pulay, who has just completed her internship with our lighting experts, chose Make It Connected and shared, “A wide network can provide access to resources, information, and opportunities that were previously unavailable. Through the industry connections I made during my time at NAC, I secured lighting fixtures and equipment to establish an interior lighting lab on the WSU Pullman campus. This lab will help interior design and architecture students understand how the art and science of interior lighting influence occupants.” Dr. Pulay worked on multiple projects during her internship, and particularly valued the experience she had working on Washington Middle School in Long Beach, California. She got hands-on experience modeling with AGi32 for lighting calculations, which she plans to teach to students at WSU. We’re excited to continue collaborating with Alana on research projects with our RED (Research and Experience Design) Department and to see her lighting lab at WSU's School of Design + Construction thrive! @washington-state-university #internship #connected #NACinterns Music by Vicate/Jamendo/stock.adobe.com
