How has Meta's policy on "political and social issues" impacted your organization's social media strategy? Thanks to the folks in the The Communications Network Social Justice Communicators Circle and for allowing me and Jayanna (Thompson) Volle to facilitate this conversation today. It feels like many of us are mutually frustrated by the ambiguities of the policy and its uneven implementation. Here are some of the recommendations that came out of the conversation: 📣 Encourage your audiences to update their Meta content preferences to allow "political content" 🚩 See if your organization account has been flagged by Meta as "political" and therefore ineligible for promotion 🤝 Find ways to reach your audience directly through partnerships, like using collaborative posts or working with influencers ✅ Consider getting verified for paid ads and promotions (I'll add some links for each step in the comments ⬇ ) How have others who post on "social and political issues" changed (or not changed) their approach with these policy updates? It's so tempting right now to only focus on recent DEI pushback, but I've been thinking about the programs and initiatives that are actually seeing bi-partisan support. What do those programs have in common, and how can we learn from them to build solidarity moving forward? "A significant aspect of CDFIs’ appeal lies in their capacity to tackle systemic issues affecting a diverse range of communities. They operate in regions plagued by chronic disinvestment and persistent poverty, areas that often include both traditionally Democratic and Republican constituents. CDFI's play a crucial role in providing access to capital and resources for people of color, rural communities, women, entrepreneurs, first-time homeowners, veterans, disabled individuals, and LGBTQ+ individuals—resources that might otherwise be out of reach. ... While these programs explicitly aim to advance equity and inclusion, they effectively tie these objectives to tangible community benefits. As impact-driven investors and organizations strive to forge consensus amid anti-DEI rhetoric, recognizing successful models may pave the way for enduring partnerships."
