Children observe and learn from our actions. Do we teach them hate or to walk through life with an open heart? As someone connected to nonprofits, whether as staff, a board member, a volunteer, or a supporter, you are already part of creating a positive legacy. Nonprofits can be refuges, and places free of judgment. Nonprofits are where it doesn’t matter who you vote for, the color of your skin, your gender identity, who you love, or what religion—if any—you observe. We all come together with a shared mission of helping others. Let our children get to see and take part in that positive example. Let that shared common ground continue to be the legacy of the nonprofit sector. Let’s all work to ensure the next generation walks through life with an open heart.
What legacy are we passing to the future?

🚨 July 1 marked the six-month countdown for availability of State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) under the American Rescue Plan Act. State, local, and Tribal governments must make plans to spend their remaining funds by December 31, 2024, or they must send the money back to the federal government. Charitable nonprofits are eligible for these funds, but they must advocate to secure them by the end of the year. Earlier this year, U.S. Department of the Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo delivered remarks about SLFRF and the urgency behind the December 31 deadline. Last week, leaders from across the National Council of Nonprofits network came together to advocate for nonprofits in our nation’s capital and then work together to address the issues nonprofits across North America are facing. While looking ahead, we also celebrated the legacy of our retiring CEO, Tim Delaney, who has led the network for 16 years. A big thank you to everyone who participated, shared insights, and contributed to the dynamic conversations. Together, we are stronger and more equipped to support our communities. Another big thank you to our sponsors who made this event possible: Coeus Global, First Nonprofit, UST, Neon One, GeoscapeSolar, noviAMS, QuickBooks® Made Easy™ for Nonprofits, Your Part-Time Controller, LLC, AvidXchange, Inc., UJoin, TriNet, OnBoard, Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, BoardBuild, PNI•HCM, and BryteBridge Nonprofit Solutions. #Nonprofits #2024Confab

This Pride Month we are celebrating LGBTQ+ leaders that helped shape the nonprofit sector. Our first featured leader is Pauli Murray, whose dedication to intersectional equity pushed the nonprofit sector to grow towards a more inclusive environment. Pauli Murray was an extraordinary individual whose contributions spanned multiple realms: a tireless civil rights activist, a co-founder of the National Organization for Women, and a legal scholar whose work profoundly influenced landmark cases such as Brown v. Board of Education. Let’s honor Pauli Murray by continuing to push boundaries, amplify diverse voices, and ensure that our missions reflect the inclusivity and justice they so passionately fought for.
