Congrats to the Iron Works South Boston project team for winning a Boston Preservation Alliance Preservation Achievement award! Cranshaw Construction Hacin
Iron Works, the original site of the Cole Hersee buildings built in the early 1900s, has been selected as a recipient of a 2024 Boston Preservation Alliance Preservation Achievement award. The project, spanning two blocks on Old Colony Avenue in South Boston, has been repositioned by National Development over the past few years as a vibrant, amenity-rich destination for nearby existing and future residential and workplace communities. In order to retain the site's history, Hacin preserved the buildings’ industrial character and reimagined each façade for new use, deploying architectural interventions, new windows and storefronts, and suite of inspired graphic murals. Developer: National Development General Contractor: Cranshaw Construction Photography: Bruce T. Martin Iron Works Tenants: Castle Island, Shy Bird, Freight Farms, Rock Spot Climbing Gym, PKL Boston, B.SPOKE Indoor Cycling, Stoss Landscape Urbanism, Mei Mei Dumplings, and Tatte Bakery & Cafe

Stay cool and give back! Last Wednesday, a group of ND and Cranshaw Construction employees came together to clean up the Arlington Reservoir. Volunteers embarked in canoes and brought to shore 176 baskets of invasive water chestnuts that were choking out growth and degrading the habitats for birds and fish. Thank you to our amazing volunteers and to Building Impact and Mystic River Watershed Association for providing this fun and meaningful opportunity to help protect the environment. #DayofService #Volunteer #BuildMoreImpact #Teamwork

In celebration of Pride Month, we partnered with Building Impact to host an in-office volunteer session to support Brave Trails, helping the next generation of changemakers Lead with Pride. Several ND and Cranshaw Construction employees came together to assemble and provide supplies and activities to youth attending Brave Trails' summer camps to help them nurture their leadership skills and develop life-long friendships. Thanks to everyone that joined and to our friends at Building Impact (Amisha and Bailey) for bringing us this opportunity. Happy Pride!

Last week we celebrated Kathy McMahon's retirement from National Development. As our SVP of Marketing & Communications for the past ten years, Kathy has made a major impact on the firm, our projects, and our people. We shared some stories, had a few laughs (and tears) and raised a glass to her next chapter. Thank you for everything Kathy-- we will miss you!
