An NIDDK-supported meeting of international diabetes experts calls out the need for understanding diabetes heterogeneity as a key step to applying precision medicine. To achieve the goal of precision medicine, an individual’s genes, lifestyle, and environment must be considered to deliver the most appropriate intervention for prevention and management. Detailing the subtypes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes may inform precise approaches to prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. https://lnkd.in/eYzP-_Er American Diabetes Association European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) reposted this
The energy that powers our cells comes from three types of nutrients, so when the body resists using one form of fuel, it takes more of another. Some people's bodies can more easily make the switch between fuel sources based on what it needs. A new IRP study conducted by National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)'s Dr. Paolo Piaggi and his colleagues suggests that people whose bodies have trouble moving from using carbs as fuel to burning fats might have larger appetites, and are more likely to gain weight over time. The FDA has granted U.S. market authorization for the first rapid hepatitis C virus test that can be used in patient care settings and deliver results in about one hour. The new technology – validated through a collaboration between RADx Tech at The National Institutes of Health, FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – could help patients with positive tests begin treatment right away, rather than the current approach, which requires lengthy laboratory processing.
