Last week, #NNSA's Corey Hinderstein traveled to the UK to join International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s Rafael Grossi and others to announce a Centre of Excellence for Safeguards and Non-Proliferation at the Urenco site in Capenhurst. The unique, multilateral center will train IAEA safeguards inspectors and test the new technologies they will use. It will come online at a time of anticipated growth in civil nuclear energy and demonstrates another pillar in our strong partnership with the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. 🇺🇸-🇬🇧-🇩🇪-🇳🇱.

Fifteen NNSA employees, representing numerous offices from six states, have been participating in the NNSA’s Mid-Level Development Program (MLDP). An extensive 16-month effort, MLDP is designed to provide trainings and leadership experiences for high performing mid-level employees to create a qualified and diverse pool of candidates for future leadership roles at NNSA and across the broader field of national security. Since starting their MLDP journey in March, this year’s cohort have traveled across the country as part of the program. MLDP 2024 kicked off in Las Vegas, where participants toured the Nevada National Security Site, met with NNSA leadership, and completed their Leadership Assessment Program core training. In April, participants continued with trainings in conflict resolution and, in May, completed team development trainings while touring the Savannah River Site. As the program continues, opportunities to shadow NNSA leadership, rotational assignments, and further in-depth leadership trainings will be offered. “This program is one of our best tools to build diverse and engaged leaders in an inclusive workplace.” -Administrator Jull Hruby The MLDP curriculum also requires the completion of a capstone project, where participants identify and assess areas of improvement within NNSA. They are then given the opportunity to present their findings to NNSA leadership upon completion of the program. This year, three capstone groups have been formed, tackling issues in geospatial information systems, workforce recognition, and enhanced coordination among NNSA offices. Recognizing the benefits of continued learning and development among its employees, the NNSA relies on the MLDP and other development programs to prepare its future leaders. This year marks the program’s eighth graduating class, with 90 employees having completed the program since its inception.
