Giving birth is a complex, dynamic, and impactful experience for all birthing people. For many, it is also their first time engaging on a large scale with the medical system. The months leading up to birth, during birth, and after birth, are often a time of increased intervention by the medical system. Alongside this shift in autonomy frequently comes trauma, and it's reported that 20% to 68.6% of birthing people experience Birth Trauma. Did you know that in 2022, there were 22 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births in the U.S. — more than double, sometimes triple, the rate for most other high-income countries? And for Black women in particular, maternal mortality is exceptionally high. The Commonwealth Fund recently issued a brief analyzing the US maternal mortality crisis from an international perspective. Please take a moment to read through this document and learn more about the persistent inequities in healthcare: https://lnkd.in/g6hHuhsD
