Welcome back to Student Feature Friday! In 2023, NHD student Tanisha Agrawal from Pennsylvania created a documentary film about the Berwyn School Fight, a significant desegregation battle in Pennsylvania in the 1930s. Although she didn't advance to the National Contest, she made significant change by sharing her project with her community. We love seeing NHD students take their research beyond the classroom to make tangible impacts! #NHD #History #Research #Students #Education #PBL

On this day in 1965, the Voting Rights Act became law and offered federal protection to Black voters and other voters of color, prohibiting racial discrimination in voting. Each year, National History Day students choose to study thousands of different topics for our contest, but civil rights topics are some of the most widely researched every year. As students of history know, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was one of the most significant and effective pieces of federal legislation in American history. #NHD #History #Education #CivilRights #VotingRightsAct #BlackHistory

One of our NHD Silent Heroes, Sergeant Teofilo Yldefonzo of the Philippine Scouts, was also a decorated Olympic swimmer. He represented the Philippines in the Olympic Summer Games of 1928, 1932, and 1936 and was the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win an Olympic medal, and the first Filipino to win multiple medals. We hope you'll remember Sergeant Yldefonzo as you watch this year's Olympics this weekend 🇺🇸 Learn more about Sergeant Teofilo Yldefonzo here: https://lnkd.in/e9DWUYb6
