About us

Natural Restorations is an Arizona-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2015. Our mission is to remove trash, graffiti, and anything foreign to the environment from outdoor recreation and wilderness areas while enriching the lives of Military Veterans and other community members. Our vision is to keep natural areas clean and open to the public. We have removed over 1.7 million pounds (852+ tons) of trash and more than 46,790 square feet of graffiti painted on rock faces. We have removed & recycled over 2,200 tires and we have replanted over 81,400 cacti, plants, and trees in burn scars. We accomplish our mission by hosting volunteer events for community members, including youth volunteers. We also manage and support a Dedicated Restoration Team that completes restorations beyond the reach of most volunteers. We have provided over 19,490 hours of work in nature to military veterans on our team across over 157 projects and we've hosted over 118 volunteer events. Our Dedicated Restoration Team expands the impact of our vision by providing contract work to Veterans and working throughout the year in areas that see repeated dumping, remote areas, areas too sensitive for a large number of volunteers, as well as graffiti removal projects. There is more to our Dedicated Restoration Team than trash and graffiti removal. We provide support, socialization, and camaraderie to the Veterans on our team. We offer a community where individuals with similar experiences can engage with one another, building lifelong relationships, all while decompressing in the great outdoors. We are connecting Veterans with nature to offer moments of peace that are sometimes difficult to find. Everyone is welcome at our events! We believe that when children and adults take part in stewardship efforts, they develop a better connection to our natural areas and a deeper understanding of what it takes to preserve them.

On Tuesday, we hit the Lower Salt River with Salty Scuba Squad to help clean up after the big holiday weekend at the Lower Salt River. We always have a blast teaming up with Salty Scuba Squad divers, they can get the stuff on the river bottom that is out of our reach! * Together we removed over 778 pounds of trash, although we had to leave sooner than planned because I got a migraine from the heat by the time we reached the Mud Cliffs. We picked up over 273 pounds of trash from just Pebble Beach before we even got started heading down the river! * Thank you to Ryan Morin, a military veteran on our Dedicated Restoration Team, and his wife, Burt, for joining us! Always grateful for their help & having a great time on the river with them! * If you lost your cell phone on the river, head over to Salty Scuba Squad to check out the phones they have recovered. They have reunited so many people with lost cell phones, keys, jewelry, etc. Thanks again to Connie & everyone from Salty Scuba Squad for spending the morning on the river with us!

Head over to our website to check out all the photos of our Dedicated Restoration Team salvaging & replanting 344 saguaros. Use the link below to check out all the photos from this project: https://lnkd.in/g9cs5VNv * Thank you to everyone at Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative for awarding us with a grant to help us purchase 344 saguaros for our Bush Fire Burn Scar Replanting Project at Four Peaks OHV & Recreation Area on the Tonto National Forest. * We purchased the saguaros from the owner of Sticky Situation Cacti & Succulent Nursery in Tucson who is retiring. She loves our replanting project & offered us an extremely deep discount if we purchased every saguaro she had. These saguaros range from 1ft to 7ft tall, grown from seed, never under a shade structure, or on a water drip system, so they were perfect for our team to transplant to the burn scar. * After receiving permission from the U.S. Forest Service Tonto National Forest to bring saguaros up from Tucson, our team took 3 trips down to Tucson to dig the saguaros out of the ground, moved them to a U-Haul we rented & drove them back up to our cacti nursery on the Tonto National Forest until it was time to replant them using grant funding from National Forest Foundation for our teams replanting labor. * Thank you so much to everyone at Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative, National Forest Foundation, & the USDA Forest Service Tonto National Forest for their support of this project! 111 pairs of shoes hung on this tree!!! A few months ago, our Dedicated Restoration Team removed 222 shoes (111 pairs) from this tree on the Tonto National Forest at the Bushnell Tanks Trailhead. It's sad to see this kind of disrespect for nature, especially when most of these shoes could have been donated to Goodwill or another charity.  🥾 Shoes & clothing have no place being left behind in nature. It doesn't matter if 111 or 111,000 people before you did it, you should never head outdoors with items you plan to leave behind. We feel the same way about this shoe tree as we do for painted rocks & remove them at every opportunity.  👟 Here are some reasons why it's best to consider your impact on the environment & leave shoes, clothing, painted rocks, & anything else out of natural spaces:  👠 Confusion for wildlife: colors from shoes & painted rocks can be confusing for wildlife, including pollinators, that rely on visual cues for navigation, food, or shelter.  👞 Alteration of Natural Beauty: Nature has its own beauty, and adding human-made decorations alters the natural aesthetic. We believe that everyone should be able to experience nature in its purest form. Everyone should be able to experience nature without trash, graffiti, shoes hanging in trees, painted rocks, or bunny ears & googly eyes on saguaros (yep, it's happened).  👡 Litter & Pollution: During the decomposition process, textiles can leach toxic chemicals & dyes into the groundwater & our soil. Wildlife can get trapped in the litter or find themselves inside a trash bag in a dumpster when the litter is picked up; our team checked each shoe for lizards, spiders & other critters before putting them in trash bags. Some of these shoes were falling apart leaving tiny pieces of micro trash on the ground. 👢 Each time you go outdoors, please consider the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace! In this case, pay special attention to the principles of respecting wildlife, being considerate of others, & disposing of waste properly.  🥾 If you enjoy shoe trees or painted rocks, using a designated art space you have permission to use would be a great place to enjoy your creativity while also respecting nature.

Each year, outstanding Salt River Project employees & retirees are selected for the SRP Presidents’ Volunteer Spirit Awards based on the volunteer work they do within their community. We could not be more proud of Natalia Smith, SRP Safety & Health Specialist, for being a recipient of SRP's Presidents' Volunteer Spirit Award for 2024 as a result of her volunteer work with us. * Natalia embodies the spirit of volunteerism! She has been volunteering with us for the past seven years & has been able to combine her love of nature & outdoor recreation with her passion for making a difference & keeping Arizona beautiful. * Natalia donates her time & energy for the benefit of the environment, wildlife, & people in the community. Natalia leads by example & helps us show that you can make a significant impact on the environment in a short amount of time with a group of committed individuals. Natalia inspires coworkers, friends, family, & everyone she meets with her selfless service. * In honor of Natalia's outstanding volunteer service, Salt River Project presented Natural Restorations with a check for $2,500 during the award ceremony. We are grateful for Natalia's commitment to our mission, environmental stewardship, & encouraging other community members to get involved & leave areas better than they find them. Use the link below to view a video played during the award ceremony: https://f.io/1ophkTSV * We also recently received a $250 donation from SRP in recognition of Natalia's volunteer service through SRP's Dollars for Doers program. * Thank you to Natalia & everyone at Salt River Project for your continued support of our mission!

On June 2nd, Justin Corey, Director of Field Operations & Co-Founder of Natural Restorations, teamed up with the PRESCOTT CLIMBERS COALITION and City of Prescott to help them remove 68 square feet of graffiti from Granite Gardens. Thank you Mac M., Andrew Z., Zach S., Leanna, Amanda, & Rick! Check out photos from the project, including before & after photos. * Our hope is that by removing the graffiti, fewer people will make the mistake of thinking it is okay to tag the rocks and boulders. We believe everyone should be able to experience nature without graffiti. * Natural Restorations has removed 48,289 square feet of graffiti from rocks & boulders across Arizona. We proudly use an EcoBlaster pressure washer & products from Urban Restoration Group US Inc. * Please contact the non-emergency # for the area if you see anyone vandalizing public lands & please contact us when you see graffiti in outdoor recreation & wilderness areas across Arizona. We never paint over graffiti, we always remove it! * You can also view the photos on our website using this link: https://lnkd.in/gmE3T84K #naturalrestorations#sayitdontsprayit#prescottclimberscoalition#climbprescott#granitegardens#climbaz#climbarizona#graffitiremoval#prescottclimbing#prescottaz
