Today, NAVSEA joins the Nation in celebrating Women’s Equality Day which commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote in 1920. This year’s Women’s Equality Day theme is “One Piece at a Time,” a theme to celebrate the expansion of women’s rights and the achievements that women in our military and civilian ranks have made. As #TheForceBehindTheFleet, we commemorate the building of the future USNS Lucy Stone (T-AO 209), the Navy’s 5th John Lewis-class fleet replenishment oiler. The ship, which is scheduled to be christened next month, is named for American suffragist Lucy Stone, who joined other notable advocates such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Ernestine Rose, and Antoinette Brown Blackwell to petition for suffrage and abolition in the 19th century. Stone’s efforts as a founder of the Women’s National Loyal League were essential to the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. Today, more than 180,000 women comprise the Dept. of the Navy’s total force. NAVSEA, alongside US Navy leadership, remains fully committed to ensuring that we can add more pieces to the picture of inclusive representation within our command. For more information on the impact that women have continuously made within the DON, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e2bV9ng Follow us here for continued coverage on the christening and commissioning of the future USNS Lucy Stone.

  • NSWC Crane led a two-week electromagnetic spectrum operations experimentation event called Silent Swarm 2024 from July 15-26. At the third annual Silent Swarm, teams participated in experimentation with 50 technologies at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center (NADWC) in Alpena, Michigan. “Our event is larger and more complex this year,” said Robert “Ice” Gamberg, the Project Lead for Silent Swarm. “It’s been an evolutionary change. We have matured our processes and we have a more diverse collection of technologies across multiple domains and participants from industry, government research labs, and academia this year.” In addition to the number of participants increasing, there was also more engagement from international partners. • NSWC Crane hosted a biennial North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military exercise in May and June at Indiana testing sites Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. The 2024 Thor’s Hammer NATO exercise is an electronic warfare (EW) event testing compatibility and effectiveness of Counter-Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (C-RCIED) and Counter-Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-sUAS). This is the first time the United States has hosted Thor’s Hammer, which began in 2015 and has been held in Norway, Sweden, and Australia. “One of the best aspects about picking NSWC Crane is that they have worked on their test infrastructure over the years,” said Michael Alperi, the Deputy Program Manager of Expeditionary Missions Program Office (PMS 408), Program Executive Office, Unmanned and Small Combatants, and Chairman of NATO Subgroup One. “Camp Atterbury, and specifically Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, provide the first opportunity for countries to test in an urban environment. This is the most realistic test we’ve ever done since starting the event in 2015. This application of testing allows us to really understand how our systems work in real operational battle.” Read more about the U.S. hosting Thor’s Hammer for the first time in the article below! https://lnkd.in/gygYAYHC
