We´re planning an online ESL program for Mexican cybersecurity workers and students, and we´re looking for an experienced ESL teacher who lives in Mexico and is interested in instructional design. The instructor will be compensated on a revenue-sharing basis. The first course is being planned to begin in September. This is not a salaried or wage-based position. The teacher and their cyber SME partner will be paid a share of the margin. We intend that to be substantial. ESL instructors who have experience with IT or cybersecurity workers are preferred. The program will target those who want to work for companies in the United States and other English-speaking countries. Applicants must live in Mexico, preferably in Oaxaca de Juarez or Mexico City (D.F.) Applications from countries other than Mexico will not be accepted. Please apply in English. If you are interested in taking such a course, please send a DM to me in English or to Laura María Kavanagh if you´re more comfortable en español. #esljobs #remote

The US State Department's Mexico organization was purged under Secretary Mike Pompeo. Replacing those who left or were forced out will take a long time, maybe more than a decade. Is SouthCom trying to fill that gap? The military can't fulfill consular duties. But maybe its role isn't all bad. I don't know. What do you think? Check out this July 8 article by Laura Tedesco and Rut Diamint in Americas Quarterly. https://lnkd.in/giiDn4zK #latam #diplomacy

A friend who knows people who know things at LinkedIn confirmed that our new domain is being flagged as malicious because it's so new. I can't fault them for that. It's reasonable to do so. The domain should fall off the naughty list in the coming days, so until then, I'll be sending a mountain of DMs. Sorry about all the messages. We have no choice but to adapt and overcome, I guess. #itsnotmalicious #newdomainnamesmell

Perhaps the most important barrier for Mexican cybersecurity workers to work for US companies is insufficient English language abilities, at least based on my observations. We're planning a remote, community-based, but well-structured ESL program that will get Mexican cyber workers up to a C1 or C2 level, but that addresses technical English. Are you aware of such a program? Does one already exist? I'm aware of Berlitz business English programs, but I'm not aware of any program tailored for IT and cyber. And what about pricing? We're thinking of a 3-tier structure like this: 1️⃣ Basic Tier (1,500-2,000 MXN/month): Limited weekly group sessions, basic on-demand content, minimal personalization 2️⃣ Standard Tier (2,000-3,000 MXN/month): More frequent group sessions or short one-on-one sessions, broader on-demand content, some personalization 3️⃣ Premium Tier (3,000-4,000 MXN/month): Frequent one-on-one sessions, comprehensive on-demand content, high level of personalization, additional features If you are a Mexico-based ESL teacher who has experience with teaching Spanish-speaking IT workers or, better yet, cyber workers, please DM me. We will need at least one ESL expert to help us get started. We already have a bilingual cybersecurity professional who can handle the domain-specific language. However, we have a gap when it comes to ESL pedagogy. Nearshore Cyber #esl #cybersecurity

The registration page for our new site is being semi-blocked by LinkedIn because it's so new. If you have any problems with registration or finding the event page, please DM Peter Schawacker or Laura María Kavanagh. I'll start the video conference about 30 minutes early in case there are last-minute tech issues. Our license provides us 30 seats for "Live Rooms" and we have about 150 registrations on LinkedIn. So please join early to guarantee your seat. We hope to see you at the game!
Let´s play Backdoors & Breaches this Tuesday at 8:00 PM Eastern (18:00 in Oaxaca, Mexico City, and Denver) 😀
