  • This #MeetTheTeamMonday we’re shining the spotlight on Mary!✨ 𝐐: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗦? 𝐀: I have been with the company for 17 years. I started as a DOT Compliance Agent, then was promoted to Tax Recovery Services Supervisor. After earning my Enrolled Agent status in 2016, I was promoted to Fleet Tax Consultant. Each position has helped me learn more about the company and helped to create an overall picture of how NECS serves our various clients. Being an Enrolled Agent allows me to assist Vehicle Service agents with their clients by processing the Heavy Highway Use Tax. As an Enrolled Agent, I must take continual education classes to stay current with tax laws. 𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝? 𝐀: I challenge myself daily to be better than the day before. Some successes in the job have been to create processes and procedures to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of responsibilities. A challenge I am currently facing is balancing work with home life while taking classes for my master's degree. I am intentional with my time, regardless of where or what I do. I very rarely back down from a challenge. A challenge allows me to learn and grow from the experience. 𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? 𝐀: I enjoy traveling with my husband, photography, and writing. I enjoy watching football and attending concerts. I volunteer with the youth group at my church and lead a women's bible study. I serve on the executive board of a non-profit organization that focuses on giving middle and high school students healthy alternatives to drug and alcohol use while also educating the community. #OurTeam #DreamTeam #NECS

  • With the dust starting to settle after the landmark Supreme Court Chevron decision upended the federal rulemaking process, lawmakers are eager to hear about rules that small-business truckers would like to see challenged. "I think first and foremost is the speed limiter rule that’s been floated around," said Lewie Pugh, executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, testifying before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The rule, which the FMCSA is looking to cap – potentially at as low as 60 mph for trucks – is scheduled to be published next year. “Also, more flexibility in the hours-of-service [rules] would be very helpful, and eliminating the [Department of Labor’s] overtime exemption for driver pay,” Pugh said. “That was put in place in 1938. Truckers right now give away 20, 30 hours a week [due to trucking companies being exempt from having to pay drivers overtime]. That would also help manage the speed and other safety-related issues we’re talking about here.” Read more about this topic on the FreightWaves website: https://lnkd.in/eC7-p9ub #NECS #FleetOperations #FleetManagement #FleetNews #TruckingNews #TruckingIndustry #CommercialVehicles #CommercialMotorVehicles #TransportationIndustry #TransportationManagement

  • On June 21 the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a Direct Final Rule revising its drug testing regulations to provide for testing of oral fluid samples. Under the rule, employers would have the option to test oral fluids in addition to or instead of urine samples to detect the presence of illegal drugs. This option is meant to help combat employee cheating on urine drug tests and provide a less intrusive means of achieving the safety goals of the program. But they could only proceed with the Direct Final Rule if it was noncontroversial, i.e., the agency did not receive any negative comments. Because DOT received negative comments in the public docket, it has withdrawn the DFR and is proceeding to consider those public comments as part of the proposed rulemaking. In general, the comments supported an oral fluid testing option but offered technical suggestions to improve the process. It’s #MeetTheTeamMonday, and this time the spotlight’s on Cherri Oeding! ✨ 𝐐: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗦? 𝐀: This is my 31st year with NECS. I have had the pleasure of watching this company grow from 8 employees to the incredible staff we have now. I have a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in I.T. Management. Then in 2014 I completed a Master’s Degree in Administration with a concentration in Organizational Management. Contract Law was my favorite class and is helpful today with my role as Sales Operations Manager when I process and review our client agreements. 𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝? 𝐀: I feel my biggest success has been overcoming my dread for change. Change must happen for growth to happen. It may be awkward or uncomfortable, but it is also very rewarding when new goals are achieved. My biggest personal challenge is that I am an A personality with a very high “J” rating. I strive for perfection (and beat myself up if I don’t feel what I am doing is perfect) and I expect it in others. 𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? 𝐀: Outside of work, I love my fur babies. I have a mini bernedoodle and a pekitzu. I love hanging out with my family and friends. I have a 22-year-old son. I enjoy pool time, a good competitive game of Euchre, and going on Jeep cruises with my friends. I also occasionally like a nice Netflix binge. #OurTeam #DreamTeam #NECS

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a final rule increasing the Unified Carrier Registration fees for the 2025 registration year by approximately 25%. The final rules states that the fee increases will produce revenues of $13 million that will enable the UCR Plan to provide funds for the State revenue entitlements by covering the shortfalls in revenues resulting from decreases in the fees the prior two registration years, which averaged 37.3%. The fees for the 2025 registration year and thereafter will be as follows: 👉 0-2 CMVs = $46 👉 3-5 CMVs = $138 👉 6-20 CMVs = $276 👉 21-100 CMVs = $963 👉 101-1,000 CMVs = $4,592 👉 1,001 and above = $44,836 Read the final rule here: https://lnkd.in/gmXn6bCE #NECS #FleetOperations #FleetManagement #FleetNews #TruckingNews #TruckingIndustry #CommercialVehicles #CommercialMotorVehicles #TransportationIndustry #TransportationManagement

Law enforcement personnel across North America will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, drunk or drugged driving, etc. Drivers engaging in such behaviors will be pulled over by law enforcement and may be issued a warning or citation. This #MeetTheTeamMonday, the spotlight’s on Liz Like! ✨ 𝐐: What is your history with NECS? 𝐀: I began my journey with NECS a little over 5 years ago as a Driver Services Agent. In August of 2020, I took on the Coordinator position, then in November of 2021 I was promoted to DOT Driver Services Supervisor. Over the past 5 years I have learned all aspects of the Driver Services Department and have worked hard to earn the respect of our clients, our agents, my co-workers and the NECS Leadership Team. In addition to my experience, I have taken several leadership development classes. 𝐐: What kind of successes and challenges have you faced? 𝐀: I feel like success can be measured in many different ways. A big one for me is when our clients are happy and when my team works together and performs at their best. Although it can be very challenging to remember all the details of compliance, we manage this very well and help to ensure our clients' drivers are compliant. 𝐐: What do you like to do outside of work? 𝐀: Outside of work my time is spent with my family and my beautiful daughter. We love being outside, watching football and basketball, fishing, playing with our dogs, and going on adventures. We are a very active family and always into something. #OurTeam #DreamTeam #NECS
