Creating a healthier future for all children #WellBeyondMedicine
About us
Nemours is committed to improving the health of children. As a non-profit children’s health organization, we consider the health of every child to be a sacred trust. Through family-centered care in our children’s hospitals and clinics in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida, as well as world-changing research, education and advocacy, Nemours fulfills the promise of a healthier tomorrow for all children — even those who may never enter our doors. Nemours began more than 80 years ago with the vision of Alfred I. duPont to improve the lives of children and to do whatever it takes to prevent and treat even the most disabling childhood conditions. Today, through our children’s hospitals and health system, we directly care for 250,000 children annually in Delaware Valley and Florida, including families who travel from across the country and world to see our specialists — treating every child as we would our own. We also reach beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics to be a voice for children on a national and international level, and to lead the way in prevention, intervention, education, and research. Nemours is growing to better serve the children and families in our care. We have 1.1 million square feet of space currently devoted to providing children’s healthcare or under construction, all designed with significant input and advice from our patients and families.

Although some students can access enriching summer programs, many can fall behind. This issue was illuminated by the pandemic, making summer learning essential for educational recovery. The National Summer Learning Association (NLSA) works with various organizations to provide quality programs that support children's health, safety and engagement. In the latest episode of the Well Beyond Medicine Podcast, we highlight the need for continued investment to ensure all children, especially those who are underserved, have enriching summer opportunities. Aaron Dworkin, CEO of the NSLA, joins Nemours Children’s experts Rachel Thornton, MD, PhD, FAAP, Nancy Edwards Molello, and Ashley Bernal to discuss the crucial role of summer learning and how we must invest and innovate to ensure all children have opportunities to thrive year-round. For more than three decades, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has collected vital data on maternal health through the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), but now the spotlight is shifting to an equally important perspective: new fathers. In our latest episode of the Well Beyond Medicine Podcast, we explore the PRAMS for Dads initiative, a growing survey transforming the understanding of family health dynamics and reach fathers to better reduce health inequities and other challenges. Experts Craig Garfield, MD, Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University and Attending Pediatrician, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago; and Clarissa Simon, MD, PhD, Research Scientist, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, discuss the critical role fathers play in family well-being and public health. Take a look at last night's Cleft and Craniofacial Night at the Wilmington Blue Rocks game! Dr. Caterson’s son, Charlie, threw out the first pitch! Born with a cleft lip, Charlie inspired his father's dedication to pediatric plastic surgery. Our Nemours Children’s associates enjoyed engaging with the community and cheering as one of our patients performed the National Anthem!
