#DYK that placing a horseshoe upside-down is believed to be a sign of bad luck. Hanging a horseshoe with the ends pointing up is said to capture and hold the luck inside while hanging it with the ends pointing down is considered to allow the luck to spill out.

The Paris Olympics may be on everyone's mind right now, but did you know about the French influence on Las Vegas’ Moulin Rouge property and entertainment? When the Moulin Rouge opened in Las Vegas in 1955, it brought Parisian flair to the Strip with its ornate signage and French-themed entertainment. The Tropi Can Can show, featuring the city's only all-Black chorus line, became a standout attraction. Highlighted on the cover of LIFE Magazine, this vibrant performance embraced the high-energy, high-kicking style of the traditional French cancan dance, adding a unique touch to the Vegas entertainment scene. 📷: UNLV Special Collections & Archive

Jerry’s Nugget Casino, founded in 1964 by Jerry Lodge and Jerry Stamis, has been a family-run establishment in North Las Vegas since its inception. In honor of its 50th anniversary in 2014, Jerry’s Nugget sponsored the restoration of this iconic sign, which we believe dates back to the mid to late 1960s. The sign features a flasher mechanism for sparkling illumination, "skeleton neon" freeform glass tubing, and hand-painted details for both day and night visibility.
