Notice of vote mailed on August 1 officially kicks off 100 days of engagement leading up to a 30-day voting window (November 13 - December 12), allowing residents to choose between: • Public Housing Preservation Trust • Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (#PACT) Program • Remaining Section 9 Housing A third-party voting administrator will ensure a fair and transparent process. 🌳 Branching Out: New Park Brings Green Spaces to Pomonok! 🌳 Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has announced a $2.53 million investment to develop a new park at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Pomonok Houses, the first major upgrade in over 70 years! This initiative, championed by Assemblymember Sam Berger and Pomonok Tenant Association President Tamika Williams-Moore, aims to transform the area with new playgrounds, a basketball court, public barbecues, and refurbished outdoor seating. Meet Jeralyn Cortez-Weir: Championing Health for NYCHA Residents 💪 Jeralyn Cortez-Weir, MPH, CHES® is a passionate public health advocate at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) leading initiatives to bring health resources to residents and create pathways for careers in preventive health. Since joining in 2022, she has expanded programming, built partnerships, and managed significant projects like the #NYCHAHealthCorps. With a background in community outreach and a master's in public health from Columbia University, Ms. Cortez-Weir has been instrumental in addressing health disparities and fostering community well-being. Her work includes overseeing partnerships with external health providers, managing a network of community health workers, and supporting #NYCHA residents in accessing vital health services. She previously worked at MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING and played a key role in NYC's COVID-19 Test & Trace Corps. Looking forward, Ms. Cortez-Weir aims to expand health programming, including establishing health clinics in NYCHA spaces. Her dedication and innovative approach are vital in enhancing the quality of life for NYCHA residents. Juneteenth Celebrations at #NYCHA Farms 👩🌾🎉 Green City Force(GCF) celebrated Juneteenth on June 15 at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s six Eco-Hub farm sites located at Astoria, Bay View, Forest, Howard, Mariner’s Harbor, and Wagner Houses. This event also marked the launch of the farmstand season, which runs from June to November. NYCHA residents can receive organic produce grown by GCF Corps Members in exchange for volunteering or compost drop-offs.
