This morning at the New York Solar Energy Industries Association's #SolarStorageSummit, NYPA President & CEO Justin E. Driscoll shared insights on how we're helping with #NYC's #decarbonization efforts while incorporating large-scale #renewables, #transmission, and energy storage, along with other experts from Sustainable CUNY, New York State Department of Public Service, NYSERDA & Con Edison.

Today, New York Solar Energy Industries Association released 20 Gigawatts by 2035: Raising New York’s Distributed Solar Goal, a detailed policy report that calls on New York state lawmakers to raise the state’s distributed solar goal to 20 gigawatts by 2035. New York has already installed nearly six gigawatts of distributed solar, enough to power one million homes. Accelerating rooftop and community solar deployment will deliver tremendous benefits to New Yorkers while helping close the gap on New York's clean energy commitments. Policy interventions are needed to sustain rapid and cost-effective distributed solar deployment, including interconnection reform, siting reform, and rate design improvements. The 20X35 roadmap highlights the benefits of rooftop and community solar and details the policies we need to deliver 20 gigawatts by 2035, driving progress toward New York's nation-leading clean energy goals. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. Had a great day yesterday at Greentech Renewables Beyond Supply Summit. Thank you Arthur Perri, Jr. for inviting me to join colleagues from across the region to talk about the importance of policy in advancing solar and energy storage deployment. It was great to connect with seasoned solar professionals and leading equipment and financing providers, but even more inspiring to meet so many electrical and HVAC contractors at the beginning of their solar journeys. Greentech's conference was a true educational and capacity-building opportunity for these contractors, and I was honored to play a small role educating them about the importance of public policy and ways they can get involved.
