The Latina Mentoring Initiative partnered with some fierce powerhouses this academic year! We are grateful to add the NYS Division of Human Rights (DHR) and the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) to our list of incredible #LatinaMentoringInitiative partners. Office-based mentoring allows our youth to envision their futures and learn about careers and the pathways to them, all while building soft skills and confidence. Meeting every other week and matched one to one, the NYS Division of Human Rights hosted Children's Aid College Prep Charter School Middle School Latinas and mentors from the community to create Las Mariposas in the Bronx. The New York State Department of Labor hosted high school Latinas from Brooklyn's City Polytechnic High School to join their employees at their Career Center. Thank you to our all of our mentors for nurturing aspirations and broadening horizons this academic year! "Those who can do, do. Those who can do more, volunteer!" During Volunteer Appreciation month we wanted to give a special shout-out to our partners at the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs for supporting mentoring and the Latina Mentoring Initiative. Last month, the phenomenal team in Long Island hosted a career day for New York State Mentoring Program 's Latina Mentoring Initiative mentees from Brentwood High School. Mentees walked away inspired by the wisdom from Nadia Chanza, Director of Special Projects, and Erika Schiffmacher, Investigator, who volunteered their time to share their personal journeys. Our mentees also learned about the great work the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs is doing and how having a mentor can make a difference at any stage in life! Before we wrap up National Mentoring Month, we wanted to share some of the fun we had this January. The Latina Mentoring Initiative launched more incredible programming in the Bronx, NY. Happy International Mentoring Day!
