One of our very first NewSpace Ignitor Companies, Auriga Space, blasts off with advancements in rapid launch capabilities through the creation of a hypersonic lab accelerator. The new equipment named Prometheus is still in development but will soon be in operation by next year.   Winnie Lai, CEO of Auriga Space, spoke on the importance of this innovation in DC this week: "Space is a critical area for the US. In particular, thinking about how we can reconstitute and launch satellites on a moment’s notice if one of our satellites is under threat. So, that’s of high interest to the US government. They’re also always looking at new technologies, new innovative ways of expanding the United States Department of Defense and the nation’s portfolio of capabilities, so we fall under that. The near term is our hypersonic capabilities. Warren Su, the CEO of SQUID3 Space: "This is an ongoing development for an E-ink based thermal control system for tactically responsive satellites. The current effort is funded by a SBIR Phase I award under SpaceWERX. The TVAC tests that NewSpace Nexus [has] been helping us to perform will advance the technology to TRL 4/5." Defense News: "An April report by several U.S. government space agencies called for more collaboration among international partners to bolster supply chains for satellites, launch infrastructure and advanced communications. “There are significant concerns regarding our collective production capacity, commercial production capacity and ability to source both the necessary quality and quantity,” the State of the Space Industrial Base report states." Of note, this report is written each year from a compilation of proceedings from the NewSpace Nexus State of the Space Industrial Base Conference.

Saw this in the NewSpace Sadler Report today: During the outbrief to the Senate Armed Services Committee by the Chair (The Honorable Jane M. Harman) and Vice Chair (The Honorable Eric S. Edelman) Representative Harman was quoted “We are more dependent on space as a country and more vulnerable in space because of that dependency than any other country. And shoring up space, which is one of the threats we addressed, is absolutely crucial. it's not just military space, but commercial space. A lot of how you talked about communication, a lot of how we communicate is through commercial space. And think how inconvenience the public would be if all of a sudden their little devices, which we're all dependent on, didn't work." One way to defend those assets would be to give them the ability to move away from the threat. Adding refueling would allow defensive maneuver without reducing on orbit life.
