The NIH Clinical Center and the NIH Chapter of the Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering (NIH-KWiSE) hosted the Korean Daejeon Delegation for a tour and historical overview. After the tour, Dr. Youngmi Ji, President of NIH-KWiSE, welcomed Mayor Lee Jang-woo of Daejeon and the Daejeon delegation to the NIH Clinical Center to foster practical exchanges highlighting Daejeon’s strengths in culture and science. There was a session introducing the activities of the NIH Korean community, followed by meet-and-greet sessions with clinical center staff to discuss NIH clinical trials, clinical research, and detailed activities from the Blood Bank and the Center for Cellular Engineering. The visit to NIH was part of the delegation's visit to Montgomery County, Daejeon's sister city, and their broader US tour focused on building cultural, scientific, and economic relations. #BelongMed #ClinicalTrials #NIHclinicalresearch #NIHbloodbank #대전시립합창단 #이장우시장님 #맹필재

Researchers reviewed the evolution of P. jirovecii, a fungus presumed to infect every person at least once in their lifetime, and the cause of life-threatening Pneumocystis pneumonia in immunosuppressed hosts. Pneumocystis have evolved mechanisms to evade host immune responses and to utilize unique surface proteins for successful infection of humans.
