About us
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) understands that equity, diversity, and inclusion are critical, scientific imperatives that allow NIH to achieve its goal of turning discovery into health. Accordingly, NIH is deeply committed to advancing diversity and inclusion, and ensuring that the experiences and contributions of all members of our community are valued while also protecting and honoring their civil rights. Throughout the years, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion has worked diligently with critical stakeholders to advance NIH’s equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. A variety of offices, working groups, committees, and affinity groups were established to foster a work environment where equal employment opportunity is a reality, and diversity and inclusion is woven into the fabric of our Agency. It is when the experiences of all people are valued, their unique perspectives are understood, and they are encouraged to be creative and innovative, that our discoveries in biomedical research advance the health of our Nation. Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Sixty years ago, the Civil Rights Act was signed into law and marked a pivotal moment in the fight for equality and justice. This landmark legislation helped dismantle segregation, protect voting rights, and ensure equal opportunities for all regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. #DYK a group named the Medical Committee for Civil Rights (MCCR) was on the front lines during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963? This event supported the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The MCCR’s dedication to justice in health care made a significant impact on this historic achievement. As we reflect on the progress made, we must also recognize the work still ahead. Let's honor this legacy by continuing to advocate for equity, inclusion, and accessibility in every facet of our society. Together, we can build a brighter and more inclusive future for all. https://bit.ly/4enJy6X #CivilRights60 #EqualityForAll #InclusionMatters #DEIA #CivilRightsAct

June is always an exciting time for those in the LGBTQI+ community and those who serve as allies. However, we must ensure the passion, care, and energy we invest into supporting our LGBTQI+ community does not end here. Let us all pledge to continue to show up for our colleagues as allies, as mentors, and as advocates to create a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible NIH!
